The World-Herald of May Is !
contained a good illustration ol
' 'save the farmer parade1' on the
reciprocity question with Canada.
A. long parade is in line headed b.y
Morgan , who carries the bannei
upon which is inscribed the words
"reciprocity means ruin to us
farmers" and he is accompanied
by Armour and followed by iJocke
feller and Swift , Guggenheim anc
Patten , Aldrich and Cannon , Cud :
ahy and a long string of trust bar
ons , all dressed in farmers' gart
and taking up the cry , "reciproc
ity means ruin to farmers. "
The other day we heard a Neb
raskan who should have knowr
better sneeringly allude to Cherrj
county as a waste of barren sand
hills fit f r nothing but to graze
about a steer to the section. Tha
made us mad and we backed thf
gentleman into a corner and pour
ed the following authentic information
mation into his eanCherry county
is devoted largrly to ranching , i
is true , but if you think it prod uce :
n othing but live slock your think
er is twisted. In 1910 Cherry coun
ty had 77,000 cultivated acres. Or
tbem she produced 865,000 bushel ;
of corn an average of 21:8 bushet ;
per acre ; 53,000 bushels of wheat
an average of 22 bushels per acre
145,000 bushels of oats , an average
of 24 bushels per acre ; 26,00 (
bushels of rye , an average of 11
bushels per acre,5QOO tons of alfa
Ifa and 8,000 bushels of barley
Potatoes ? Cherryxcounty producec
259,000 bushels in 1910. Her wile
and tame hay crop was worth § i
000,000. Her acreage of really
good farm land is less than hal
cultivated. There is room up then
for more cattle raisers , but alse
. room and more than a good living
for many more industrsous farme
rs who will adapt themselves t (
the soil instead of trying to adap
the soil to themselves and sittia * :
around and cursing their "luck'
because they can't make their par
ticulaf system win. Cherry is a
big county with possibilities. She
ought to be better known , and mei
who know nothing -about hei
should , at least , refrain from ex
posing their ignorance by telling
untruths about her. Will Mau
