Frank "Allen , alias Ed Ingles , alias Jim Walker , and Horn , and probablytmany other aliases , made hisHBscape from the co.unty jail Jast Thursday night. Bob Robin son had taken supper to the pris oners and left the door unlocked while the prisoners were eating and stepped into the jailer's room for a few minutes , when the pris oner" made his escape , and once outside the court house yard , de parted in safety. Sheriff Rosseter was at Merriman serving sub- poenaes and upon his return on the night train was told of the prisoner's escape and immediately began wiring over the country , offering § 50 reward for his cap ture. It is surmised that he went through the country -or up' thru the reservation. School Notes. Last Friday afternoon the. high school an pupils of the eigth grade and the Valentine teachers enjoyed the priyelege of listening to an ad dress by James Cowan , who by re quest of Supt. Bettenga , talked on Robt. Burns and his poetry. Mr. Cowan , who is a graduate of the university of Glascow , Scotland , is a man of broad culture and his ad dress to the high school which they listened to with earnest attention would have been gratefully received by a college assembly. A number of guests were present and were en thusiastic in their appreciation of the masterly address. The teachers and pupils oi our schools were agreeably surprised to have Prof. G. A. Gregory of the state department visit the various rooms all day Wednesday of this week. Edwin , George and Leo Day of Long Pine were enrolled in the 3d 2d anp 1st grades this week.
