Max E. Viertel of Crookston
came down Monday evening on
the belated freight and stayed over

E. B. Quible , Marion Metzger
and Arthur JBowring were Merri-
man representatives at the alfalfa
show Monday.
The city dam was discovered to
be washing dirt from under the
spillway this week and the water
was let out to repair it.
Dock Grooms' house burned
Saturday night , catching suppos
edly from the chimney. The fire
department did all they could to
save it but it was practically de
stroyed.
Geo. W. Ladely and wife drove
to Cody from their ranch on the
Gordon and came down to see the
alfalfa show and to transact some
business. They are about to lease
their ranch and move to town.
J. W. Mann , the Cody drug
gist , was in town last Thursday.
He has sold his stock and we un
derstand he and Mrs. Mann con
template a trip to England and
may remain a year or so there.

The alfalfa show Monday was
attended by nearly 1,000 people.
This show was gotten up by Wm.
James and son , L. R. , of Dorches
ter , and given at Omaha- during
the western land exhibit. It con
sisted of a plat 20x30 feet , show
ing a rainature ideal alfalfa farm ,
buildings and stock , the different
alfalfa products and stock feeding.
People near Valentine came in
great numbers and there were
many fr m nearby settlements.
Prof. Hunt gave a splendid lec
ture on alfalfa raising and a gen
eral discussion disclosed valuable
hints on alfalfa raising. This
show occupied a special car run by
