Ethel Veach was enrolled in the 2nd grade this week. The debate preliminary has been postponed one week and will be held on Saturday evening , Feb. 4. An unusually large number in the grades and high school are af flicted with colds and the grip. Some are out of school of account / of sickaess. Miss Gordon and her pupils ob served" the opossums which Mr. Tucker had at the court Jiouse. It was a treat for the little rollcs to see these marsupials of the south. We are pleased to record that Miss Driscoll was elected to a po sition in 'the new state normal school at Chadron , Neb. She has resigned her position as teacher of the 4th and 5th grades and will go to Chicago next week to take a course in art at the , Chicago uni versity. Pupils , patrons and teachers will miss her very much as she is faithful , kind and capa ble but our loss will be Chadron's gain. It is an honor worthily be stowed. ' Eli Chat. R. A. Man-all was on our streets Monday. Wm. Spence's attended church in Eli Sunday. Dan Garner and wife went to Merriman Tuesday. \V. D. Bickettb' children are on , the sick hat this week. Mrs. Rick- is also sick. The trouble-seems to be a cold. Alice , Alex and Freda Nelson vis ited at-W. D. Ricketts .Sunday and the young folks attended church at Eli in the afternoon. They report that the crowd was small , but the sermon very impressive. Nearly everyone around Eli is alive and able to talk about their neighbors.
