The annual meeting of the
stockholders of the North Table

Valentine , Tuesday , January 3 ,

from Valentine will try to get
home to spend Christmas. It al
ways means a good time at home
and a visit with friends. *
The Woodlake people are going
to have a big masquerade ball Sat
urday night , Dec. 31 , and invite
everybody to attend. Prizes will
be given to the best'masked ' couple
and a general good time is antici
pated.
Charley Tackett came down
from the reservation last Friday
and visited at the home of his
father-in-law Pete in

town. Mr. Tackett's wife and
daughter had been down here vis
iting for several days and they ac
companied him home.
Mrs. Minerva Harden returned
last week from Ft. Laramie ,
W.yo. , where she had been a coup
le of weeks taking cnre
of her sister , Mrs. Dora Knott ,
who had a severe attack of ty
phoid fever , but had recovered
sufficiently when Mrs. Harden re
turned to be up.
Geo. Christopher came to town
lasb Saturday to start for the west
ern coast , and , after he got into
town , found a horse buyer and
went back to Simeon in an auto
mobile and sold a car load of
horses and returned to town in a
few hours , and took the train for
thewestern coast Saturday night.
The A. O. U. W. will give a
big dance . next Monday night ,
Dec. 2G. The Workmen lodge is
one of the best in town and is run
by a bunch of jolly good fellows ,
and this assures a good time to all
who attend this dance. Don't for
get the date and prepare to attend
if you are looking for a good
time. At Quigley's hall Monday
night , Dec. 26.
Nick Uck and Wash Honey
were in Valentine Monday on
business , and in conversation with
them we learned that they are
contemplating a trip to Florida to e
spendthe winter. They are going
in a few days and will take their
wives with them and spend the
winter in the sunny south. They
expect to rent a cottage on the
coast' near Pensacola and enjoy
the ocean breezes. Mr. Honey
thinks ifc will benefit bis health
and Njck'-says he's going .along
just to follow the ducks and come ' p
bkck with them in- the spring. ' f
CHRISTMAS.
Chrismas comes next Sunday
with its train of presents and
greetings. What a monotonous
old world this would be if it wasn't
for the Christmas holidays and
Sundays. We used to look for
ward to them with anxious an
ticipation of the good times and
toys and joys of meeting 'old
friends who returned home.
Next Sunday is Christmas and
the young folks will be home from
school for a week or two. Our
old town will ring with the glad
some &mes of talk and merry
laugh from morn till late at
night.
Our merchants have prepared
their stores with all the good
things that people expect and are
busy all day long waiting on tlie
mammas and papas who have to
remember all the little ones at
home with something. Papa
thinks he's hard up but he must
provide something and he'll never
miss the money he spends for the
dear little girls and boys whom he
would'nt deprive of a Merry
Christmas for twice the amount.
v We like to be optimistic and
never more than at Christmas time
when we remember the sacrifices
made for us.

home for a visit and- her husband
will be here today from Rosalie.
Mrs. Sam Imes is also in town to
visit with her at the parental
home. Mrs. Dave Collett has
been in very poor health the past
few months and she and her hus
band are going to seek a lower al
titude somewhere in hopes of
benefitting her health.

Thackrey brought in a
load of household goods Tuesday
for his sister , Miss Cora Thack
rey , who has moved to town and
rented the John Sirnpson house
where she expects to live this win
ter , and the Thackrey children
will stay with her and go to school.
Miss Thackrey's neice , Miss Har
ris , of Manhattan , Kan. , will keep
house for them and is expected to
arrive soon.
There will be services in St.
John's church on Sunday , next ,
Christmas Day , both morning and
evening. Holy communion with
appropriate sermon at 11 a. m.
Evensong with address at 7:30 :
p. m. On Saturday evening ,
Dec. 24 , there will be choir re-
liearsal in the church. Appro
priate exercises with a Christmas
tree for the children of the Sunday
school on Monday afternoon at 5

We forgot to mention last week
that Bishop Beecher's house was
entered by thieves while he was

on his western trip at O'Neill ,
Atkinson and Valentine , while his
wife and daughter were down
town and some silverware and
jewelry , among which the Bish
op's ring was taken. The thief is
thought to have oeen a tramp ask
ing alms who had visited the home
recently. He has not been apprehended - )
prehended and no clue has been I
