WHY WOT ?
Our town board had better pub
lish ] an ordinance declaring thi
first Tuesday of every month elec
tion day. '
If they permitted the people to t <
vote upon the question the towi
board would be compelled to pub
lish a statement of what they an
doing and who gets the thousand ; !
of dollars spent in our city yea :
after year. Perhaps such a state-
ment would explain to the people
who gets more money than he is i
entitled to and cause a vigorous
campaign for more , economy in
public affairs.
Yes , the books are open for in-
spection if you want to take the
slurs generally offered , upon any-
one's questioning or inspecting
the books or asking to see them. .
They should be offered voluntarily
for inspection but many people
are interested in these matters whc
would not care to pose as investi
gators. i There are good people
who do not like to scrap or quar-
rel for the assurance that all is
well with our city officials and the
treasury but they would like to
have a statement of the expendi-
tures of the city and what the
money buys. '
Will they voluntarily give it to
us in the form of a statement for
everybody to read- at.their leisure
or will they holer the cover down
and appear in the role of hiding
their actions until an investiga-
tion is demanded ? It may appear
undignified to them to uncover
now upon being asked to do so but
the people want to know what
they are going to do with the
21,420. How are they going to
spend it and how much did they
spend last year and what for ?
The people want to know. 1
Don't get mad at THE DE Io-1
CRAT for asking these questions I
which seem impertinent only to !
the town board who might desig- !
nate us as kickers for wanting to
know , but it's a part of our busi- i
ness to know.
File for Representative.
J. F. Carr of Springview has
this week filed his nomination with
the secretary of state for repre-
sentative of the 52nd district. THE .
DEMOCRAT : recommended this sev-
eral weeks ago and we thought at
t that time there would be no candi-
date from this county for the
place and probably wouldn't have
been had Mr. Carr filed a couple
of weeks earlier.
Thinking that there was no can-
.
didate to oppose him , Martin
Christensen of Valentine has . in
the past few weeks made prepara-
tions to become a candidate for
representative and this week he
also has filed his name for that of-
fice.
fice.There
There will , therefore , be two
Candidates competing good na-
turedly for this nomination and it
' ill be their duty to press their
ilairas before the democratic vot-
irs for their preference candidate.
i Mr. Carr was elected two years
igo and is the present incumbent. I
He made a good record and we I
were willing to see him come up
for re-election in the absence of
my demand from a Cherry coun-
ty ; aspirant which until recently
.ppeared obvious.
Martin Christenscm is an old
timer here and recognized as a
eading democrat. He is a painter

legislature is in session can wel
spare his time in the service of th I
state as a law maker , having no
work at that time of the year at
his trade. '
Either Mr. Carr or Mr. Chris
tenseri will make an able repre
sentative and it's up to the peopl
to select their choice.
