Geo. W. Klingaman of W0od
Like died suddenly last Thursday ! :
morning at his home ; of heart '
I ' trouble. He was 53 years old and
leaves a wife to. whom he had
been married 26 years. The . de

, John Angelo ; of the..firm of
Fleming and Angelo ] was in town I
Thursday , June 9.on business
and called to get acquainted at our
office , as he is a new man 'in ' Cher-
ry county coming here , in March
from Oklahoma and ' purchased a
ranch near Purdum. This was
Mr. Angelo's : first , trip to Valen-
, . tine ' but he wi.ll soon become ac
quainted with our people , as he I '
is a stock man of the western type
and takes a friendly interest in
his surroundings. We find him
an interesting convE.rsationaliRt/ ; /
and has in the past taken a prom-
inent i ' , part in public ! affairs.
We have a letter from Chas. A.

Schools the past year : stating that
he wi.ll oon return from his visit in I I
Colorado with relatives. Mr. Ruby
made many friends here during /
his two years' experience in our I
country teaching and being grad-
uate of the Ann Arbor law school
has decided to take up that pro
fession and will corne to Valpntine
and ! open up a law ] office. He is i a I
bright young man of more than I
the usual ability and we nrpdict
that he will find plenty of business
here when the people learn that
they can dpppnd upon him to at

Milt Latta the , Edison of Cherry
coul ! t , Y and we might say Nebras-
ka , gave an exhibition last Satur
day of his one piece rotary steam
r
engir.p on main street near the !
Red Front hard ware. It dop.sn't I' '
look like an engine and now thaU
we've seen it we wonder'that they I I
are not common in the t possession I
of every one. It is ( sim pie . enough
and -Milt says he can make one
out'of an old junk pile of scraps
in a few hours. The cost rf the
'material is about 550. . He had ,
the boiler which is a one horse
tobasco water heater , to which he
: attached double pipes conducting
the steam to a drive wheel with
hollow hub from ' which project
steam pipe spokes with small ap- !
eratures near the end , fore and
aft-alternating ; : : , through which by
a cut off in each pipe leading to a.
hollow hub the exhaust is regulat-
ed , - turning the wheel backward
or forward" To this wheel is at-
tached the belt or cog wheel to
run the machinery wanted. This
sprocket drive wheel of steam
pipes can be made solid for strength
with steam passages to outer pro-
jections ! : , fore and aft.V ith pul-
ley and rope , a bushel basket of
heavy bricks , the weight : of a man
was hoisted held and lowered
many times with three up t.o sev
enty pounds of steam. A large
crowd surrounded the machine I
and witnessed : the demonstration ,
all pronouncing it a success. ! The I
ebgine indeed speaks for itself.
and seeing is to believe. About
our fl'iel1d.l\lilt Latta it might be
said ! : that he is ever doinar that
which brings surprise. Only a
few years : ago he was called to A- '
rabia and'ood Lake to drill wells 1
for the C , .i- N. W. with his little (
ten dollar well machine of his own t
invention and operated successful-
ly where a2000 : well machine a '
whole ] carload of machinery , had .
failed. This little bundle of scraps
he will soon pack in his grip and C
start for the patent office to dem-
t
onstrate : what he has shown us and p
get protection for his invention il i
Simple and inexpensive with pow : r :
er already discovered four times t
as great as in other engines and
yet more in sight is Mr. Latta's
claim. K.
