E. W. McConnell a baker ,

day and is employed by the Valen-
tine Bakery Co. He is crippled
in one foot but his hands and head
are not impaired.
S. Q. Spain , the census taker
asks : us to request the people to
notify him of anyone who has
been missed in taking the census.
Wants to know at once as he will
send in his report Monday.
G. N. Thompson of Cody was
in our city yesterday. He tells us
the Codyites rotten p1gedan Eng-
lisnman Y there/ Tuesday evening
for insult to our .American flag.
American citizens are loyal and
patriotic even in Cody.
Someone took a shot at Deputy
Sheriff Francke through the noTth
window of the north room of the
county jail about 12 o'clock Mon
day night. A shell was found out
north of the court house which
was probabXy ejected by an auto-
matic revolver.

Chas. Salmon has sold his 480-
acre farm to C. O. Shane of
Brunswick for § iO : per acre. .
He also sold his store and took in
exchange a store and stock of
goods at Brunswick and he and
his brothers Dick and Aaron are
down there taking an inventory- ;

Frank Perrin and wife came in
from their home in Tripp county I
Tuesday , taking the remains of
their daughter , Ethel May , aged
IS years , to Wayne for burial.
She was subject to epileptic fits
for years , and , Sunday , becoming
despondent , took corrosive subli-
mate which resulted in her death
Monday evening.
A couple of bums or tramps
dropped into town Monday and
stole seven pairs of pants of Dav
enport & ; Co. , which they pro-
ceeded to sell ] at , greatly reduced I
prices to Lee Shepard , Section I
Foreman Shaul and a couple of
Tripp county farmers. .Sheriff
Rosseter was early on their trail
and had them under arrest before
they could get out of town , and
Tuesday morning Judge Quigley
sentenced them to 30 days work
on the streets.
' Col. W. H. Davis and wife of
York , Nebr. , are visiting the edi-
tor's family this week. It is their
first visit up here to see their
daughter. Mrs. I. M. Rice , and
her husband. They always thought
they would have to go out of the
United States to come to Valen-
tine and still spoak of York as I i
down in the United States , but
they're getting over it and now ;

past master Mason and enjoyed a
meeting of that lodge ] here Tues-
