Mrs. Robert Robinson returned
from Hot Springs Monday and
has been very ill at her home

Mrs. Elsie McClelland returned
to her home at Fullerton last night
aLd was accompanied home by
her sister , Miss Ethel.
Miss Dora Grewe , the teacher at
Britt , closed her sc.hoollast week
and returned home for a short visit
and will then go to Lake where she
is engaged to teach a spring term.
Q. B. Quible and family depart-
ed from our city last Saturday ,
returning to their ranch near
Merriman. Many Valentine peo-
ple are sorry to have them leave
us as they are good people.
T. A Cutschall suffered a stroke
of paralysis two weeks ago of one .
side and was in a helpless con-
dition -for awhile , but we're glad
to report that , he's getting better
and hope to see him fully recov
ered.
Alva Green came down from
Merriraan Monday night , and
Tuesday was appointed deputy
county surveyor for the west end
of Cherry county by the county
commissioners who were in ses-
sion on special business.
Mrs. J. M. Raya [ and daughter ,
Miss Maude , were in town ? Mon
day. Miss : Ralya has been teach- .
ing near Sparks the past winter I
and closed a successful term April
1st. She is just recovering from
a severe attack of the grip.
The A. 0. / . ' 1sTT . will give a
public dance in Quigley's opera
house tomorrow night , April 29.
Good music will be furnished for
the occasion by Fischer's orches-
tra and a good time is expected.
Everybody is cordially invited.
Dr. B. 0. Aylesworth , ten years
president of the state agricultural
college of Colorado , will lecture
in Valentine , Saturday evening ,
May 7. Subject : Woman ' , and
the . Ballot in Colorado. " Ad-

Walter Brown's Tennessee } Min
strels of Holden , Mo. , played two
nights at Valentine Monday and
Tuesday. They play baseball and
very infrequently lose a game.
There are ten- men and two women
in the company and they give a
real minstrel show. Those who
like a minstrel show can find a
pleasant evening's entertainment
with them. They played at Wood
Lake last night to a crowded house.
Charles W. Allen stopped off
here today enroute home from
Lincoln where he has been the
past two months in the interest of
his new book entitled , "Once in
Nebraska , " which he has taen
compiling and now has it ready for
the publisher , Mr. Allen gives
in this book the history of this
part of the west hitherto unwrit
ten. , The book will find a ready
sale and be read by. everybody ,
into whose hands a copy may fall.

husband went down to Wood Lake
Wednesday on the' freight to attend
a banquet given by the Eastern
I Star.

Mr. and Mrs. W. Honey met us
atjhe depot and took us to their
I home. The ladies of Wood Lake
are excellent cooks , and upon this
occasion they seemei to have
enough to feed a hundred hu ngry
mortals. The banquet was served
at 5:30 instead of waiting until the (
lodge ceremonies were over and a
long table through the lodge room
was laden , with the good things thai
tempt one to eat more than he
should.
Then a session of the Star was held ,
Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Rosseter anc
Mrs. J. W. Mann of Cody being
initiated , after which they attended
the minstrel show in the opera
house below the hall. The visiting
party found Senator Dave Hanna
at the entrance with tickets for
them. After the show , there was
some ice cream left up in the hall ,

also plenty to eat , so they proceed-
el to eat another supper after
which they waited at Mr. Honey's
until tram time and returned on
No. 3.

cess. Many people' from out of
town were present and the danc-
ing continued until a late hour.
Clayton Shook is the name of the
man who was arrested by William
Francke out on the Snake Monday
of last week for stealing a new rifle
from a Tripp connty man f at Shep-
ard's bnrn. He was landed in jail
\ . to await further investigation.
The Swine department of the
1910 State Fair , Sept. 5th to 9th ,
will contain a fine showing of
Poland China , Berkshire , Duroc ,
Chester White , Hampshire , Large
Yorkshire and Tarn worth hogs.
The prices now obtained for swine
will tmake this show one of ex-
treme value , and Supt. G. A.
Leonard : of Pawnee City is busy
assigning pens to those making
early applications.
L. H. Phillips , a prominent attorney
of Girard , Kans. , writes : "In this

with the measles ' and rheumatism.
Claude Lovitt was quite sick
Sunday but was able to go oh duty
Monday. ,
Mrs. Viertel was over and took
the pictures of the Crookston
school recently.

day nights was enjoyed very much
and was well attended. -

The Royal Neighbors are p1 ac-
ticing for another play to be given

Helena Viertel is suffering with
rheumatism and hasn't been able
to go to hear her music class for
two or three weeks. .
Chicken raising seems to be a
paying business. One dozen sold
at Rosebud for. $9 and more was
wanted at the same price.
William and Roy Searby went
to Omaha Saturday and will stop
to see William's sisters who live
in the eastern part of the state.
Mrs. Cavanaugh and daughter ,
Lizzie , and Mrs. Shepard were
out in the country Friday , spend-
ing the day with Mrs. Henry
Sauerwein.
The children in Miss Newman's ,
school are quite industrious. They
get their lessons , then make sofa I
pillow tops. Thejittle folks do E I
real well with their needles.
