It is reported that over 500 head
of weak range cattle perished in a
prairie fire near the Loup river in
the southern part cf the county a
short time ago. I
Senator Aldrich was with us
Tuesday night and spoke in behalf
of education. Too much cannot
be said in praise of Prof. Ruby
for . his untiring efforts in' ' trying
to put our schools at the head of
the educational institutions in this
part of the country.

The morning passenger came in
several hours late a few days ago
on account of the burning of a
small bridge near ivlerriman.
Mr. Ness , the station agent ,
with his wife and children is tak-
ing a well earned vacation , his
place being filled by Frank Somer-
ville.

her school Friday evening , ac
companied by Olga Schleuter who
has gone to Ainsworth for a few

The Odd Fellows held a ban-
quet Saturday evening. A large
crowd . - partook of the good things
provided for the feast. Several
prominent members were up from
Ainsworth and aided in the initia-
tion of two new members.
Last Saturday evening Jake
Kline and wife went to the Odd
Fellows banquet , leaving the two
little girls at home fast asleep.
The children waking , started on a

tour bf inspection and finding the
doors locked , the elder , possibly
thinking of the fame gained by
Carrie Nation with a hatchet ,
found a hammer and began smash-
ing things. Jake informs us that
eight window panes were missing
when he got home. - .

Clark , ' bot11 : of Goose Creek , were
unite lsi - marriage at Grand Island
and hare returned after their
honeymoon at Omaha to the

: groom's ranch on Goose creek.
Mr. Batt is a son of a prominent
real estate man of South Omaha ,
an Clark the daughter of a
ranchman near Elsmere. She is
a well known school teacher in
the southern part of the county.
Many valuable presents were re
ceived by the couple after their
return from Omaha and the best
wishes are extended to them.
Ben Pierson , Frank Ballard ,
Rev. Cumbow and many other
ranchmen of this'locality were in
to get their- shipment groceries
from Love'rin & Brown of Chicago
but went . -home disappointed . as :
the railway company's agent here :
refused . to deliver the goods to I
Mr. Thompson , - agent for Loverin
and Browne , till he paid th.e
freight which he refused : to dor
claiming prepaid freight and he
became , very abusive -and used
some pretty strong language
which caused Joe Wiesner , pro-
prietor of the Lakeview hotel , to
let him know where he was.
