The ladies guild of St. John's church will hold their usual cooked food sale at T. C. Hornby's store Saturday , -March 26th. Edgar Fike has accepted a po sition as stenographer for Walcott , & Morrissey. Mr. Fike formerly lived in Valentine when his father , J. A. Fike , was register of the U. S. land office. A. B. Davidson of Stan wood , Iowa , will have several cars of registered cows and bulls for sale in Valentine , Saturday , March 1 ? . Read his large advertisemant else- where in this paper. John Lynde , the state agent of the Nebraska-Underwriters Dept. of the Farmers and Merchants Ins. Co. , was in town last Satur- day week , having come up to ad- just a loss at Woodlake. The ladies aid of the Presby terian church will serve supper : : , Beginning at four o'clock Tues- day , March 22 , at the home of I H. W. Hoenig. Supper 25 cents. Everybody invited. Menu next week f P. H. Young returned last Fri- day with a car of fine White Faces and George Christopher returned yesterday with a fine lot of cows and a bull , some of which are con- ceded by prominent stockmen to be the best brought the country. A number of friends surprised Mrs. Moon 'Monday ! ' evening by taking their lunch and enjoyed a pleasant time with her before her departure Wednesday to College View Sanitarium where she ex- pects to remain for a time taking medical treatment. Col. G. E. Tracewell has sold his feed barn business to W. F. Perkins who took possession at once. Mr. : Tracewell was unable to give the feed business his per- sonal attention since his accident and will nov devote his time to his auction business. , Mr. Perkins is a good man and will no doubt get his share of 'Cfre business. His home has been south of the Niobrara , about 10 miles ) south west of town. The ladies aid of the Presbytnr- ian church gave Mrs. : Slonecker a plasant surprise Saturday evening by taking poces' ion of the houpe and enjoying a pleasant evening ! at playing gam : s and social con- ver " ' ation. Hoe- nig and Frank Brayton are attend- ing the fourth annual meeting of the Federation of Nebraska Re- tailers in Omaha this week. Some four hundred merchants registered and it is the largest meeting in the history of the or- ganization according to Pres. Fred Diers. The retailers have a pro- gram calling for the discussion of many important store problems and the meeting in Omaha has demonstrated the need of the or- ganization , according to leaders. The retailers were tendered a ban- quet by the Commercial club of , Omaha. Wednesday evening at the Hotel Rome. Britt Items. I Dora Grewe spent Sunday with ' Pearl Brown. Bud Brown took a load of freight to Rosebud Saturday. John Janssen was a caller at Bullis' Friday evening. , * The boys are quite interested in duck hunting these days. Will Bullis is hauling lumber from Valentine for a new barn. Mrs. Graeff and daughter , Gus- sie , visited D. A. Kellogg's : Sun- day. Fred Taylor , Frank and Eddie Brown , Ansel Broad and the Mis- ses Ryschon and Grewe were Britt callers Saturday. Mr. Schmidt who has purchased . the Britt place from Mr. Walcott , arrived Saturday at Crookston with his car of goods and family. Will Green and Tom Spratt moved the first of the week , the former moving onto the Novak place and the latter onto the San- ner place. The social gathering Sunday evening , consisting of most of the young folks of the neighborhood ] , was enjoyed to the utmost. The chief amusements were singing and music by the violin and organ. A party from Valentine , con- sisting of Frank Randall and wife , Elmer Randall and wife and Mr. Jelly and Miss Libby Ryschon , came out to our vicinity Saturday evi ning with the inten- tion of going to the dance , but on learning . there was to be no dance I gave Ryschon's a pleasant sur- prise.
