Tuesday , the funeral of Lee
Shepherd was held here. The re
mains were shipped here from
( Nevada , Mo. , where the deceased
- met a lingering death from cancer.
. Rev. : Cumbow preached the fun
eral sermon.
Monday evening the fire alarm
was turned in and a crowd sdon
gathered. Sparks from an old ash

heap were blown about by the

' high wind which made it appear

' ; house was on fire. The alarm ,

zens can muster for any emerg
ency , and also shows the need ; of a

Last Wednesday morning about
two o'clock fire was discovered
in the drug store owned by Dr.
o McCullough. The repeated cries
! / of "fire" soon brought a large
crowd of men and boys , who did

all in their power to extinguish
the flames , but the store burned
to the ground , and for a time all 1 1
hopes of saving the building im

mediately south were given up.
