George Koan. a stockman living south of Woodlake was in oar city Tuesdays Mrs. : Frwler and her mother , Mrs. Wentworth , have bought the I Al Webb residence. Hon. Dave Hanna and Mr. and I Mr. and Mrs. Dave Hancock of I Woodlake were in town today. Miss Mamie Keeley and Doug las are home from Seattle and Omaha. Miss Mamie : has been away six months. John Howe , son of Richard Howe of the City hotel , was taken Wednesday night to Omaha , to the St. Joseph's hospital to be operat ed upon for rupture. A look in Mrs. M. E. Moon's , . fur house will convince you that Valentine is the fur market of the northwest. Highest cash price paid for hides and furs. 6-2 Some one forged a check on W. A. Parker of Woodlake some time ago over in Keya Paha county and got part of the money , though the check was drawn for considerably more than was paid on it. The party who advanced the money on the check loses out as it was dis covered when the check was ' sent to the Citizens State Bank for payment. P. F. Simons spent several days in town last week , and while here we closed up a deal for his ' largest house , which was sold to \V : A. Keister , who has been living in it for a couple of years. The other house is for sale at a bargain and will be sold' soon. It is a good ; , well built House , ceiled , plastered sheathed and weather boarded , double floors and a good cellar laid up in solid stone wall. Only four rooms , but substantial , and can be added to at a small expense. Mrs. W. H. Hooper died early Wednesday morning at the family home on North Table. Mrs. : Hooper was a daughter of Daniel Hubbard and up to a year or two , ago was apparently in splendid health. [ She has been doctored for cancer and that was her ail ment at the time of her death : Six children , Mrs. Oscar New- man , Mrs. Clem Hahn , Melvin , Alva , Arthur and Clinton and her hl1 band survive her , also her aged father and two sisters , Mrs. Dob- bins of Kearney and Mrs. : Lottie Cramer of Valentine. * { h Gguner- al will be held at the , ' " home and . interment at Harmony'ceniete'ry. : . . . ; . While returning from giving a music lesson Saturday , Maude i Ralya met with an unfortunate accident. Her saddle horse slip ped and fell with tier , breaking her right arm just below tb e elbow , but with vim , which she must possess , she still continues teaching her school at Sparks. A smooth looking fello-w was in Woodlake a couple of weeks ago representing that he was looking for real estate loans for a Boston concern , and was investigating the country. Being short of ready cash he cashed a check for § 27 on i a Boston bank and kft town. The I check was protested and the Citi ' I zens State Bank of Woodlake ] ls . short. r The Valentine high school held > a preliminary debate afc the court I house last Saturday evening to se lect two debating clubs of three members each , one to go away from home and the other to stay at home : and meet other high schools in joint debate. The question debated was : "Resolved , That Labor Un- ions are , on the whole , beneficial. " Of the eleven contestants , three on each side were chosen as fol- lows : Affirmative-Alice McLean , Hazel Graham and Raymond Jones. Negative - Marie ChristenRen , Hel- en Sparks and Lawrence Rice.
