The col d- est it has been here this winter was 6 ° below zero and ] very little wind and not so sharp as in Cherry-coun . ty. There has been more . sleighing , ' here this winter than I ever have seen before. Every farmer has a bob sled and a cutter. . The country I is very : prosperous and favorable I for a poor man to make a living in I if he only works. The" people have small farms here-from 10 acres up - and the country is thickly set- tled. The farmers all have good . houses and outbuildings. "People here think that if a horse or a cow has to stay outdoors over night I they will surely die. All machinery I and farm implements are kept un- der shed. All kinds of small grain and corn I are raised here , but beans is the best crop. I had in 17 acres of beans and threshed out 300 bushels. Received $2 per bushel for ' them. Corn went , about . 45 . bushels to . the ! acre. : . , My house is a two-story . and con- tains 17 rooms . , including closets , and is well finished. Could not build the same kind of a house now for less than $8,000. The barn is 40x 0 and the granary 16x32. I have a double corn -crib , with .room between for wagons and bn ! / .gies. The ho * house - is 16x26. My farm . .r is all fenced with 62-inch wire and coyotes could not get my chickens if there were any here. , Land sells at from $50 to $100 per acre. We have coal mines and saw mills. Horses are high but cattle are about the same price as in Cherry county. " I have . - five ' - head ' . : . of horses , 16 head of cattle and [ , 16 head of sheep.
