Reimer called today to advance their subscription to TIlE DEMOCRAT a couple of years. E. W. Mudge of Cody and Hen ry Schaefer of Nenzel were in the city last Saturday on business. The Ainsworth schools were closed Tuesday on account of what is i believed to be black diptheria. Sheriff Rosseter and Oliver Wal- cott returned today ( Thursday ) with their prisoner , Wm. Bailey , , from Mexico. ; E. B. Quible is in Lincoln this week looking after his test case before the supreme court and making settlement with the state treasurer. W. ' J. Barker was over from Gregory yesterday expecting to go to Rosebud , but had to give it up as Rosebud is quarantined against outsiders. Mrs. Ednah MacDonald Wieg- enstein is in Omaha this week visiting with her , husband who came up from St. Louis to spend a few days and his wife met him in Omaha. ' The report that Sam . Bordeaux had frozen to death was false and Sam denies that he was froze to death. We don ' t ; know how such a story can be turned .loose by in- telligent people. , Schools opened up Monday in Valentine and the attendance is fair , but ; some parents are keeping their children home this week , fearing the school is starting too soon. There seems to be no new cases of fever. Nicholson is enjoy ing a visit from her mother , Mrs. O'Sullivan of Belle Fourche and also her aunt of O'Neill. Gerald Archer aged 7 years , son of Capt. Louis Archer and wife , died Wednesday : morning after a lingewing illness of scarlet , fever. He had the misfortune to I br iak his leg just before taking . d wn with the " fever and during hi ; illness became almost deaf. He was a bright , cheerful boy ; in life and all the neighbors will miss him. - him.Dr. , Dr. G. M. Barnes , the eyesight specialist was in the city Tues- day. He is very enthusiastic ! over the United Wireless Telegraph Co. , which he recommends to all his friends for investment. The stock has increased steadily since . the company was organized and is now selling at § 40 : a share. The i company has three big manufac- tories for their supplies and hun i dreds of stations already establish- ed , and is going to be a strong competitor of the Western Union and the cable companies and also the Bell Telephone Co. , as it has I also entered the telephone field and will in time : supplant all wire companies at a much less expense. It is a wonderful invention and the stock has been placed on the market through fiscal agents for the company , and to prevent any syndicate or corporation gaining control they\restrict \ the sale to 1,000 shares to each person. The , company has now a capital of 40 millions ) and an income of 80,000 , per month. Stock is rapidly ad- vancing as the people realize the great possibilities of wireless.
