Spoke of the un- desirable picnic of the teacher with the difficult school , and the real picnic of the teacher who ! teaches under ideal conditions and ended with the wish that the life of the county superintendent in her new home might be one un * ending picnic. ' Julia Van Driel honored the Valentine schools as their repre- sentative toast Ideals and sat down admist hearty applause. . " J. J. McLean read an artfcle by Judge Ben Lindsey of Denver on Altruism in education. Every one was sorry when the call "Time" left some of the excellent articles yet : undelivered. Mrs. E. P. bettenga honored both : > women and men in her schol- arly review of the woman's position in the ; world's work. C. A. Ruby of Wood Lake while not himself illustrating his toast v left his hearers in perfect sym- pathy with the value of work done by the' , prodders. D. F. Story in his theme "The Boy of Tomorrow" sees their future determined by the amount of education and preparation they . . are receiving. Mrs. F. M : Walcott spoke from her heart on the subject Athletics , being the wife and mother of two all-round athletes , her son for the past three years having played foot ball on the "Varsity" team and never . , having lost to his school a single point through a poor play. She believed throughly in the training received in the power of self control gained , the power II' of co-operation developed and the ability to rejoice in the good work done by another. ' One of the happiest features of the evening was the music fur- nished by Miss Julia Van Driel , " Kate Helper ; Marie Christensen , and Alice McLean. When we say that the Banquet \ ' was served by the Aid Society of the Methodist church it goes with- out saying that it was delicious and abundant. > . , Nebraska Public Library * Commission.
