" Democratic Candidate for County Treasurer. It is a good many years since E. B. Quible located on a ranch in Merriman precinct and during all the years since he has been an honest , hard working citizen. His path has not always been strewn i I . . . . . with roses but he has kept his 'courage up and by industry and economy he has supported his , family and built up a nice little ranch. Four years ago he was nomi- nated by the democrats for the , office he now holds. The county I was then several hundred republi- can but he polled nearly a solid : vote in the precincts where he was ' , known , although they were very strongly republican , and when the returns came in it was found he ' was beaten by only five votes. i Many people thought he had act- ually been elected and urged him to contest the election and demand E . a re-count. He refused to con- I test and returned to his family and I ' ; I his . ranch. Last July when Treas i urer Armstrong vacated the office there was a , well nigh universal -TEE , demand for Mr. \ Quible from the ( people who knew him and thought he had been kept for nearly four years out of an office to which so Ii . many of his fellow citizens believed he had once been elected. He , ! was accordingly appointed. Mr. Quible took immediate possession of the office , but as he believed that local offices ought to be free from party politics , he appointed the same : deputy who had served I under Mr. : Armstrong , although she was a republican. This ap pointment was made because he . . did not believe in drawing party lines , and he expected to find ev erything in the office in such con- dition that there would be no reas- on for a change. Later develop- ments made it necessary to make a change and he selected William Kennedy of Kennedy precinct , a man of family and long residence . in the county , for the position of deputy. I It may be safely said of Mr. \ Quible that no man stands higher I for honor or integrity than he. In j f his management of the office he has not drawn party lines but has given the best there is in him to i each and all. It has been his pur- . pose to serve the public faithfully and honestly. He will be contant ; to fullfil the duties of the office for the salary allowed b.v law , and he ; will give his entire time to the ii conduct of the office. ; This is an office requiring good I judgment , ripe experience and I v strict integrity , and Mr. : Quible . . . . . . . . , .or . r . 1 . . . a . , . Tf you are : a democrat , you want the . best pos- sible service fromv.your county ofj j ficers and if you get that service you do not care whether they are dernocratj or republicans. If .you I , are/ . a republican you want the same class of service and you do not care what party ticket carries their names. The same is true . . if . . itionist. You you are a prohibitionist. must remember that the county , treasurer has many questions pre- I sented to him that calls for quick decision , prompt and -effective action , and it requires a person of practical business experience to meet these requirements. The selection of a new treasurer is a practical one that is put up to l 1 you and it is to be hoped that you will decide it as you would if youi i v'ere making a selection of some I person to take charge and manage forty or fifty thousand dollars of your ownmoney - say if you had a bank or trust company that would have collection of vast sums of money and the disbursement of that money whom would you se- select ? If under these circum- stances you : would select Mr. Quible , or a man of his experience and ability , thenv why not select such a man for the important of- fice of county treasurer ? - Joseph P. Kreycik candidate for County Commissioner lives in Wood Lake Precinct and is one of the early settlers , coming here with but little of this world's goods and has now a nice home surrounded by a good ranch and several hundred head of stock. . Mr. Kreycik is still a young man , strong and jovial with lots of good cheer and a progressive turn of mind that has made him a leader ' among men. He is the organi- I' , zer of "Kreycik's" concert Band and Orchestra" and has made a success achieved by few persons in the west. Beside his musical ability he has i looked well to his business and is one of the prosperous level headed men who-has succeeded because of his close attention to business , in- dustry and integrity. From his neighbors and friends who are most intimately acquainted with him we learn that Mr. Kreycik is a good citizen and a helping neighbor always ready to help those in need of his services which he gives with hearty good will and it is these neighbors who ad- vocate his candidacy and appeal to the citizens of Cherry County for their votes at the coming Nov. election. Mr. .Kreycik has super- ior qualifications and will make a good county commissioner and he will use the same good business judgement in the county affairs that has made his own success and that is the kind of man that Cher- ry County needs. The public sales advertised in THE DEMOCRAT : the past couple of weeks drew good crowds and ev- erything sold at top prices. The Richards' sale all" ounted to § 12- 700. Yearling steers sold aJt . . . 26.75 , cows at $40.75 : ' : , and two- . year-old heifers at § 28 50. Yank O'Bryan's sale aggregated 8,000 One team of young mares with colts by side brought $ 600 ; and 20 ( ) head of yearling colts sold at § 52 per head. His cattle also brought good prices. Webster Wertz had a good sale , yearling heifers sell ing at § 20 a head. At the Chris topher sale one milch cow sold for § 65. Prices were also strong at the Gaskill ( sale. Auctioneer Col. G. E. Tracewell says a man was heard to remark at the Richards sale that the cattle brought higher prices than ever before paid in , Cherry county. . _ . , . , . . . . . . . - - . , - c' : f1 : ! eI I i e - , jLadiesTaiIorMadeSuits ; 'I 1 1 Besides my millinery and dressmaking I have a fine i I i .I : . line of samples from one of the best Ladies' Misses' : ! . . . . . - . ; : ' , I I - : and Children's Tailoring Firms in the east. Omaha in struggling with a street car strike of no small pro- portion entails the usual riots , stag- nation of business , and damage to property. Their demands were made two weeks ago for increased , pay with more uniformity to new i and old emplo . ees , for elimination of descrimination against Union men , for shorter hours and equa- lized runs and for the arbitration of grievances. Pres. A\rattles of the Street lly. Co. has refused : $ " settlement upon these terms and the Co. has imported a horde of men from other cities to operate the cars "strike breakers. " The sympathy of the public seems to be with the striking union men and they have conduct- ed themselves in such a manner as to win the support and admiration of other unions in Omaha and also the good will and wishes of thous- ands of Omaha people. The coSt of this strike to the street car Co. will be probably greater than "if : they acceded to the wishes of the strikers even if they wib out for they will yet have other men to deal with who will be new to the work and their inefficiency will cost many dollars in accidents and lack of knowledge and acquaint ance with their work. The public will suffer also. " The street car Co. refuses , to negotiate with the union and off- ered to take back 90 percent % i the strikers but would employ , no , , new men who affiliated with for : : belonged to a union. A petition has been started ask ing for the initiative and referen- dum vote for 3 cent car fares at the election of the city and it looks like the street car Co. will have to look somewhere for votes to hold the former 5 cent fares as the unions will stick together. , .y at- tles had better settle and settle quick. 1 Without Globe Sights or Goggles.
