Carl Lurz , Sr. and Jr. were up
from near Wood Lake Monday on
business. It "seems that some
years ago a man made final proof I
on a quarter section of land that .
some other fellow wanted and the :
other fellow protested but the
proof was accepted and a patent .
issued in due time. The land : was !
sold and Mr. Lurz later bought I
it. The old trouble is bring n ; - I
vived and an attempt being made I
to have the land cancelled. Why ?
Because soros other person wanted
that quarter. It is strife.
Will the government go back of
their former decisions when it was
possible to have all the proofs and
evidence ? If such is to be the case
! and _ the King George government
or ' vengeance is upon us then let
us pray for a Cromwell. The
Sand Hill country may haVe had
fraudulent entries but to wreak
vengeance upon the present occu-
pants of the soil I because it was
impossible to catch the guilty
parties of years ago is equal to the
wholesale slaughter of the first
born in King Herod's time.
Thus a dozen or more persons
are now in each case made to sufT-
er who are innocent purchasers.
If there was a crime it should 1 1
have been punished before the
present stage of development , and
jf ; Uncle Sam has a desire to punish
it should be the guilty offenders.
The land is not stolen in these
cases but is in proper use subserv-
ing the needs of Western Civilza-
tion and Uucle Sam has more to
give away in 640 acre tracts to
those who will make good ] use of
it , so , where's the crime ? Some
inspectors are job hunters who
think they are expected to do
something or their job will be cut
off. If the goverment will turn
its attentions to the congregating
of coal mine lands into the hands
of Eastern Capitalists and Railroad
Co's they will be doing something
and against others than helpless
individuals who have no money to
fight back or protest their rights.
Why don't they go after those
who are gobbling up the oirfields
or coal fields and by combinations
of capital charge Cherry County
§ 9 to § 12 per ton for coal.
