Obituary.
At Oakland , California , on Aug-
ust 26 , 1909 , Hiram Cornell peace-
fully passed to the Great Beyond.
Mr. Cornell was born in Ulster
county , N. Y. , June 24 , 1815 , and
was at the time of his death 94
years , 2 months and 2 days old.
He was married to Sarah A.
Haight , June 25 , 1839 , and lived
until 1859 in New York state , in
which year he movred with his
family onto a farm in Galloway , (
county , Missouri.
On the breaking out of the Civil '
war he was commissioned a cap-
taia of the Enrolled Missouri Mi
litia , and served as such until the ' 1
close of the rebellion.
He removed from Missouri : to
Wisconsin in 1871 , where he re
sided until 1884 , when he came to
Valentine , following his son ,
Charles , who had come to this
country in 1880. He resided in
Valentine until 1895 when he
went with Mrs. Cornell to stay (
with a daughter in California , in :
hopes ( that a warmer climate would
be more congenial to the latter's
health. Mrs. Cornell died , how-
ever , at Lodi , that state , Jan. 28 ,
1896. They'had , at that time ,
lived together over 56 years.
After the death of his , wife he 1
divided his time between his home
in Valentine , on a property which
he purchased in Mississippi ' , ' and ;
California.
He leaves Tour ' daughters , Mrs. t
Shidy , Mrs. Leffingwell , Mrs f
Moore and Mrs. Davis , and one 3
son , Charles , of this place. The
former three were with him dur- ,
ing his final sickness.
Mr. and Mrs. : Cornell were both
brought up in the Quaker faith , ;

and the former was a Mason : since

enne river and standing Rock In-
dian Reservations , October 4th to
23rd. Registration to be made at
Aberdeen . . , and - at Pierre , the capi-
tol I of the state.

ter Wells left for Lake : : Okiboje ,
Iowa , for a ten days' outing at his
uncle's cottage near the lake , be-
fore returning for his next year's
work at Creighton university at
Omaha. .

day , next , Sept. 5th , there will be (
a celebration of the Holy ; Euchar t
ist , with sermon , at 11 a. m. Ev-
ensong , with address , at ' 7:30 : p. )
