W. D. ARl\ISTROXG , County Treasurer of Cherry County.
By GEliTRUDE JORDAN , Deputy.
The Interurban Line.
W. K. Palmer , the engineer of
Kansas City , who has had in
charge the survey of the water
power and proprosed interurvban
railway line for C. H. Cornell , re
turned here Wednesday evening
with the two crews who have been
doing the field work , the same
having been completed , where the
crews were dismissed. In work
ing back corrections were made
and in some instances new loca-
tions were adopted which im-
proves the line ] in many respects ,
until now Mr. Palmer thinks he
has determined en a very favor-
able route.
The survey is made to Fairfax ,
via Burton , one line being survey-
ed through Spring\ iew and anoth-
er leaving it to the south of the
line about four miles. It will be
necessary to compare costs of the
tvo routes and make comparisons ,
which will take some time in the
office , before it can , . be determined .
whether or not the route through
Springview will adopted.
The field work having been com-
pleted , it will take some thirty
days in the office to complete the
survey and estimate cost of con-
struction , after which Mr. Palmer
will be obliged to collect data as to
the resources of the country , the
probable revenue to . both the wat-
er power and the railway line ,
which will take a month at least ] ,
and it will likely be the early part
of October before Mr. Cornell
will be properly fortified to go be-
fore the parties having the capital
for , the purpose of negotiating the
securities.
However , Mr. Palmer found
more than he had anticipted in the
quantity and flow of water for the
power , with most favorable con-
ditions for developing. ] Also ,
along the line ] of the - proposed rail-
-
way the country is much farther
advanced -material resources
than he had anticipated finding.
. , He , therefore , thinks that capital
will readily be found for financing
the two enterprises.

Milt Latta came to town
yesterday from Hackberry
Lake and-says he has sold his lit-
tle well machine to parties from.
Hastings and Kearney for 7100
for the U. S. and Canada territory.
He is going to work on his pet
project now of building his engine
for his railless railroad scheme
and says it will haul loads to town
from Hackberry Lake in two
hours. This machine _ is supposed
to make its own track forming a
cement as it goes but it won't need
a dining car attachment because .
you can eat black bass for break-
fast at Hackberry Lake , come in-
to towL , get a few glasses of beer
and get back for a black bass din-
ner at the Lake. When Milt gets
his machine to working there will
be a new colonization of the west
and land will be worth § 59 an acre
more than now. . ' I
