E. O. Garret , representing the
American Book Co. , spent a day
with us last week.
Supt , Bowen gave an instructive
talk ] on the subject of arousing in-
terest in reading.
Minnie Adamson came to Valen-
tine Saturday in time to go out on
the picnic with her friend and
teacher Miss Lulu Gregory.
Mrs. Hudson's mother , Mrs.
Baker has been spending a week
in Valentine. She was one of
those who enjoyed the picnic at
Perry Falls.
Addie Harvey entertained the
normalites Monday at Chapel with
a reading that was well rendered
and much appreciated by those
who were present. v
Myrtle Harris , class 'Q3 V. J.
N. spent Saturday and Sunday
with her friend Frances Harden.
She enjoyed the annual picnic with

her many friends.

am Newman , was honored last
Sunday by Mr. : Darnell of Lincoln
who appointed him temporary col
lector for the Anti-Saloon League.

Rev. Baker pleased the Normal
ites with a very practical Chapel
talk last Thursday. lIe knows how
to say the right things for teachers

Supt. Bettenga again , interested
and instructed the Normal by some
very neat experiments in pyhsics.
Hydrxogen was prrduced , experi-
ments with the syphon and air
pump , performed.
The deft and successful manner
in which Coanty Supt. Hudson
planned ] for the picnic lunch , again
shows her skill in management
and her close friendly touch with
the teachers who will quickly act
on her kindly ] suggestions.
Some of the rear guard of teams
on the way to the picnic found
three very lively ] people in the
vicinity of the fort. They were
glad to accept the invitation to
ride and were soon in the midst
of their friends who were waiting ,
for them.
Last Friday afternoon four of
the old time normalites , Myrtle
Harris , Frances Harden , Lulu
Gregory , escorted by Supt. Greg-
ory , mounted horses and inspected
the railroad works on both sides
of the river. All points of inter-i
est were visited and many feats of
horsemanship performed.
The examinations to be held at
the close of the normal next week
are only for those who enroll in
the normal , the regular county ex-
amination having been held last ]
week. The examination next
week is for county certificates , so
any one can enroll as a normal . ]
student as late ] as Wednesday

Again the annual normal picnic
has come and gone-come , with
its joy , jokes and jollity , . .laughter
and heartedness-gone , into
the hearts and memories of those
who were there as one of the beau-

of good nature prevailing. Those
whp have been on many of these
outings with the normal pronounce
this one as the very best. The
weather was ideal l , the picnic
grqunds more lovely ( than usual ,
the1 strolls in the woods in small
and large groups more efnjoyable
than ever , even the water in the
river : . was declared by some to be
wetter than on other occasions.
After the bountiful dinner some
songs ' and yells made the glens

Mrs. Hudson , Judge Walcott ,

Mrs. Sparks , Mr. Hudson and
others loyal to the normal were
sounded received the vociferous
applause of the crowd ; and all
yelled a mighty yell for Miss
Jordan who was declared ] the next
treasurer of Cherry county. The
afternoon was spent going to the
falls , climbing cliffs , wading
streams , sitting and chatting in
cool nooks , playing games , read-
ing , taking naps in the cool shade ,
gathering raspberries qr botaniz
ing as each one listed until the
hour of meeting. A lunch was
then enjoyed , which , with plenty ]
of lemonade , refreshed the crowd ,
ready for'the drive home.
When picnic day shall coino strain ,
So tilled with mirth and / pleasure ;
If you and I are there , dear heart ,
Our joy will know no measure.
