I Prosperity Valley.
J Introduction : Prosperity Val-
ley is a fine undulating flat valley
lying just west of the sand hills in
the western part of Cherry county
about 12 miles east from Gordon ,
Sheridan county , and 6 miles south
J from Irwin , Cherry county and 2
miles north of the Niobrara river.
This place comprises a small tract
of this vast area of Cherry county
and is one of the most "garden
spots of Eden , " which can be
found in the western part of Ne-
braska , and of which the resources
and advantages are unexcelled.
The people that comprise this com-
munity are one of the most gener-
ous hearted and benevolent class
that can be found anywhere ; also
a clean and prosperous class.
The bright sun falls heavily
down upon the earth and causes
the domestic crop to shoot forth
and spread its-foliage abroad.
Corn and oats are making great
headway , potatoes are all bloom- .
ing and in fact all crops in this
vicinity are strictly up to date.
Better prospects neVer existed be-
fore in the history of Nebraska.
The HBig" 11m" pulled off their
big time the 3rd. .Everything
proved well. On the dawn of
morning the mist' and rain was
very dense but about 9 a. m. the
clouds cleared away ' and all turned
bright. The crowd began to gath-
er and about noon full 500 persons
had gathered together to celebrate
the freedom anniversary of our
country. Before noon a neat and
well ordered program was turned
out. Hon. I. M. Rice of Valen- ]
entine delivered the oration and
did full justice to the occasion.
Upon his close cheer upon cheer !
was given which gave vent to the
feelings of the people. After noon
horse races , ball games and num-
erous foot races was indulged in
providing'a program 'until dark.
After that time ; a grand display of
fireworks was the order. When

this was finished dancing was the

sleepy , but saying I had a good
time.

Lincoln News Letter.
For the first time Nebraska will
vote for candidates for the nomina-
tions for officers under an open
primary. When the voter asks
for his ballot he will not be given
a republican , a democratic , or oth- I
er party ballot but he will be giv-
en a sheet upon which are all the
, candidates under their separate
party heads. Then he is at liber-
ty to vote any ticket he desires.
He must , however under the law ,
confine his voting to one political
party. He cannot vote for one
candidate on one ballot and . then
skip over and vote for someone
else of another party. Should he
do this his vote will be lost. U n-
der this law it is possible for a life
long democrat to vote in the re
publican primary or the reverse.
Friends of the measure which was
passed by the late legislature in-
sist however that very few voters
wil get out of their regular party.
Others are fearful that one party I
will endeavor to nominate weak
candidates on the opposition tick-

which prohibits prizes in food
packages is to be tried cut in the
courts. A friendly suit has been
started in the Lancaster county
