" Long ago the Scotch learned this.
The sturdy old Scotchman must be

Dad's ' Day.f
The following we copy from the
Randolph ( Kan. ) Enterprise ,
which Bra . Moon says is g oing '
the rounds of the Kansas press.
We first saw this article in Edgar
Howard's Columbus Telegram and
we suppose Bro. Howard is , en-
I titled to the credit for it :
II I I Much has been heard in Kansas
i towns lately about "Mothers' day.
: Several Kansas editors are now "hol-
:11
lering" that the "old man" should
have an inning. They want a
"Dad's Day. " Should they have ?
By all means. . Give the old man
his chance at the bat. Let him ca-
vort in his ten-dollar hand-me-down
suit his last summer's straw hat

and his bargain counter brogans.
Of course , he looks pretty bum in
that raiment alongside of daugh-
ter with her $25 inverted flour-
barrel top piece , her $50 gown with
the 'waist ' at the knees , her F 'enrh. .
heeled patent pumps and the rest of i
tbe stuff that goes with glad fem
inine decorations. But he is "Dad , "
nevertheless. "Ma" with her 500
clubs , her bridge parties , her pink
teas and her cut glass society will
certainly step back for one day and
let the old man realize for a short
twenty-four hours that "every dad
has his day. " .
Revenue.
A "c 1 uiet millionaire" died in
England last week , one of those
who are described as being "com
paratively unknown , " and he left
an estate valued at from fifty to
seventy-five million dollars. U n-
der the maximum death duty of
15 per cent and a succession duty
of 5 per cent the government will
receive from ten to fifteen million
dollars from the estate. 1
. This quiet millionaire was a
bachelor and a man of simple
habits. He had , no use for money
and probably dd : not even go to
the trouble of trying to defeat the
passage of the inheritance tax law ,
did not try to beat the law by giv
ing.most of his wealth away before
he died , did not care what was
done with it after he resigned his
iold : on it and other earthly things.
And that $10,000,000 i or so will
come iI / hand.\ to the state. It

would ] ] build a Dreadnought.
, The English example will be
one of the strongest arguments to
bring the United States to t- an in-
c ) me and inheritance tax on the
rich - that is , if \ve presume that.

have a law-making body in which
the balance of power is not held
