The Seventh annual' session of
the Valentine Junior Normal will
be held from June 7th to July 30th ,
l'900peig'ht weeks.
This longer session gives time to
do better work in all the subjects
pursued and will be especially help-
"fuTto those who are preparing for
their first year in teaching , since
I more time can be devoted to obser ! .
vation In the model school and to
the "study of methods.
Tuition and text books are free.
An enrollment fee of two dollars
. entitles each student t to all lectures
and entertainments.
Those branches required for any
grade of county certificate , element
ary state certificate or professional
life certificate will be included in
the course of study.
Good table board may be had in
clubs at 3.50 per week. Rooms
50c to $1.00. .
Convenient rooms may be had in
which students may board them-
selves.
Several students , both boys and'
girls , would like l places to work for
their board. Any citizen who wants
such help should let the County
Superintendent know.
The State superintendent has
made a wise selection of instructors :
for the faculty , men and women
who have dealt with all phases of
public school work , and who know
how to inspire and help those pre
paring to teach.
No better place than Valentine
can be found for a summer ' school
and every instructor who has been
here -in the past six years has re-
mained enthusiastic in- regard to the
ideal'conditions here. This is the
only place that provides boat rides ,
extensive horse-back excursions : , an-
nual ; picnic journeys and many o b-
et "social recreations for the spare
time k : Teachers' and students at.

friends at a luncheon given Friday

Jolin Heelan brought in a load
of hay Wednesday which he sold
for 4-c a pound ' - almost 50 cents a
bushel , isn't it ? and it was loose
hay , too , but it was clean , bright
hay that makes a horse smile and
get busy. '

1'lrs.fargaret Heelan , and her
daughters , Miss Margaret Heelan
and Mrs. John Heelan , of Arabia ,
came up on the freight Wednes-
day and after transacting business
in our city returned on the after
noon freight. Our new trains be-
ginning Sunday will help local
travel considerably.
The Rt. itev. Anson R. Graves ,
D. D. , bishop , of Kearney , will
officiate and preach both moaning
and evening on Sunday next , May
2 % in St. John's church. There
, will be a celebration of the holy
communion and the administration ,
of the apostolic rite of confirma
tion witlrsermon at 11 o'clock a.
m. Evensong with address at ' 8
o'clock p. m.
The Harding Stock Co. , sup
porting David Murdoch , in.a . re-
pertoire of plays that appeal to
all , will appear at Church's opera
house Monday and Tuesday nights ,
May 24 and 25. Both plays are
so cleverly written that there is no
unnecessary language used to mar
'
the action of the piece. . ' Mr. Mur-
dock is a remarkable clever and
versatile actor , having been in the
business since a child ; an exper-
ience of 18 years ; in that time
with maay ; of the best New York
attractions. This company is com
posed of 12 very clever people
suited to their respective parts.

Lawrence Beebout of Johnstown
was awarded $300 in Judge Quig-

Mrs. Church has been greatly
annoyed the past week by boys
locking her moving picture audi-
ence .in with a padlock and throw
ing eggs through windows.

* W. E. Hahn of Deadwood has
bought the Irwin ranch and is
stocking it with fine horses and

horn cattle. He was in town 1 last

Win. E. Smails , cashier , and
Eobert Bridge president of the
Farmers & Merchants National
Bank , and Charley Johnson , a
farmer of pear Fremont , are in
the city looking over land.
A fire was discovered in the
Willottr stand just in time to save
the west side of Main street Tues-
day evening. Everybody boost
for our new . reservoir and good

water. Several days the past
week the present tank was empty
while cleaning and repairing same
A big fire could have swept the
city in the meantime. -
Thomas Darnell , the Anti-Sa-
loon man from Lincoln will speak
in the M. E..church on Sunday.
In the evening he will speak in
connection with the gospel temper -
ance meeting previously ann > unc-
ed , and will probably use ) the reg-

of this we have not been informed
