Miss Effie Carlson writes pleas antly of her work at Kimball. She was a good student and is un doubtedly making a strong high school teacher. State Supt. E. C. Bishop spent Monday inspecting the work of the Valentine school and express ed himself as well pleased with the work being done here. Mrs. Claudia Wells-Green , of class 'OS , is visiting her parents. She has with her a bright little daughter , who was christened in the Episcopal church Sunday. Miss Effie Hutchison , who was a student in Valentine a few years ago and who is now teaching in Keya Paha county , spent last S it- urday and Sunday in Valentine. While we do spend considerable time and effort in looking after children who do not attend school regularly , we feel that every bit of nervous energy thus expended i'sN spent at the expense of some other I and better pbape of school work , i It can not be expected that a ' teacher can do very much for a i boy whose parents have so far lost ! control over him that the superintendent - ' tendent is compelled to go out and Do this with your children. School children should be fed plenli- fully and frequently on Quaker Oats. It makes the best possible breakfast for anyone who is to work with either brain or muscle. It's easy to prove this in your own family. Increase the daily consumption of Quaker Oats and you'll see an almost immediate improvement in the health arfd energy1of thtfse wh'd eat it. Regular size packages for city trade , large size family packages for those who I are-not convenient to the store. i Breakfast on Quaker Oats every day. compel him to come to-school. The teachers of the 5th , Gth and 7th grades are very anxious that the parents will meet them half way in keeping the children in school. We received a beautiful Easter card from Chadron this week , but as there was no name assigned we are not sure whether to credit it to Opal or Garnet Holsclaw or Mrs. C. H. Pollard. Mrs. Jane Conger-Walsh , who was a student a few years ago , spent Saturday and Sunday here and called at our home. She says she always reads the school notes before anything else. Margaret Haley returned to school Monday , after a week's ab sence , attending the funeral of a favorite cousin about her own age , who died at O'Neill and whose re mains were taken to Iowa for bur ial. We received a pleasant letter a few days ago from Paul Cole , who is now with his mother at Ex celsior Springs , Mo. We are sorry ry that Paul had to leave school before he completed the year's work. - We were much pleased yester day to receive a. beautiful Easter cai--1 from Charles Cook of Selma , Cal. We certainly did not de- serve it as we had not answered Charley's last letter , in which he 'said so many nice things ab'out the good that his high school course had done him , although he did fail at times , to make very high grades We received an interesting let ter recently from Mrs. Alta Starr- Gardner of Cody. It seems but a year or two since Alta graduated , and the way she talks of teaching Vera and Jay to sing "Ked AVing" and how sweet the little baby , Elmo , is , reminds us very forcibly how fast the years are flying. Alta says she can't conceive how it- would seem to come back to Val- and not find Mr. and Mrs Watson there. In order to encourage the high school students in their athletic work some of the boys and girls have been allowed to prepare a play which will be given in the opera house Wednesday of this week. The proceeds will be used to further the interests of the clubs in every way possible. A card from tr. ) B. F. Jeffers states that he is much pleased with the course of medical lectures that he is attending in New York. Beft says that he and Mrs. Jeffers are combining pleasure and business. They stopped one week in Chicago cage , one day in Washington and one day in Philadelphia on their their way to Xew York , and now are taking in the sights of New York , between lecture hours.
