It is to be , we understand , only a means to an and. He hopes to enter a business college after this year and thus fit himself for a good position. His success in this line caused him to be be- seigcd with those who desired work until the good man knew not what to do , but finally decided to hold an auction , those desiring work agreeing before hand to faithfully work for those who bought them. Masks were used on the men and they were sold similar to the way our black slaves were sold in the south. The ex periment proved successful and many found work in this way. In all probability the auction block will be used again and again if the iireat republican prosperity stays with the laboring men for any great length of time. Who is there who will blame this good man of the gospel ? The men put on the block and sold to the highest bidder were the f-ith- ers of families , and the families were starving. Who can blarne the fathers for offering themselves at auction ? If neither the good man nor the laborer can be blamed , there must be some cause for such an awful condition. Is it because of the re publican administration that al lows the wealth of the nation to be accumulated by those who do not labor ; a system that robs the labor er and allows the rich to become richer ? We want our readers to answer these questions in their own way. O'Neill Independent. St. Nicholas Church. Services will be held in the Catholic church as follows : In Valentine on Sunday. March ' 21.
