Taft is a big good natured man. He laughs , and laughs and laughs. Sherman isaregular "Sunny Jim. " A jolly fellow , always feels good. " The foregoing is the constant talk of the great republican dailies. What a Jolly , jocose , laughing ticket what a huge joke on the republican party. Holt Co. Democrat. If brother Tarn pi in wishes to rush the defense of the last con gress and excuse the defeat of measures recommended by Pres. Roosevelt , it is of course his privi lege. We are at a loss to know how he will explain the sidetracking ing of legislation for postal saving banks , deposit guaranty and other important measures for the benefit of the masses. Then turn round and pass the currency bill for the benefit of the gamblers of Wall street. Tekamah Herald ( rep ) . Help ! Help ! Help ! In our feeble way we have at tempted tostay at least within hailing distance of national poli tics as reported in the metropoli tan daily papers by their special correspondents. We own we are slightly skeptical with regard to Associated Press stuff relating to either of the great parties , and take its utterances with a goodly amount of saline seasoning. But whether we missed the road while we were mooning around to dis cover the meaning of the "injunc tion plank" in the republican plat form , or through our obtuse na ture , we will be forced to admit that we are certainly lost in the political bitterweeds and this is our first "holler" for help. We need both a light and a guide. Wherefore is it thusly : After the news of Taft's nomi nation , many of o\ir western re publicans rubbed their hands to gether and spoke in tones of su preme satisfaction , "Ah , that's good ; it is especially fortunate for the west , and now Roosevelt's policies will be carried out. " As to Roosevelt's policies they were a little vague , but we're sure that "trust busting" was one of them. So they signed "OK" to the nomi nation and are supreme in their hildish faith. After the news of Taft's nomi nation , all of the eastern republi- ans especially interested in the 'interests" and that the interests of the "interests" be furthered , ruTbbed their hands together and pake in tones of supreme satis faction , "That's good , that's mighty good ; we are now assured that the republican party will abolish the energetic and uncom fortable Rooseveltian methods and return to the old 'conservative' ways. " And Wall street smiled and smiled , and then knocked in the head of the campaign barrel and prepared to disgorge the most normous campaign slush fund ver employed in a national politi- al struggle. And they signed "OK" to the nomination and are supreme in their crafty faith. The west says , "Hurrah for Taft for he's Roosevelt's man , and the trusts will have to go. " The eastern money barons shout "Hurrah for Taft , for he means ; he end of Rooseveltism , and the west be d , that is , of course , we ' ' . ' " know Taft's 'right. Will someone kindly bring a lantern and show us the way out of this political jungle ? We'd like some explaining , for without it we're lost. How can a man of Taft's avoirdupois do this gigantic feat of national contortion ? Where is Roosevelt all this time ? Who .Let the child's foot grow as it should. The Educator Shoe is the only shoe built fco conform with the shape of the child's foot. The broad , foot form last , gives every comfort and ease of movement to the child's foot and prevents the pinched and cramped positions , which cause so many of the troubles with the-feet- after years. "See .our window display of Educators. is Taft r-eally for ? Silence and darkness all around ; dark , dismal , doleful , clammy , clinging- silence and darkness. It increases apace. Will some good western republi can give us light in the way of an explanation ? NemahaCo. Herald. . ( From Special Lincoln Letter. ) of J'udgeTaft's _ first injunc tion : was issued against some Ohio raili&ad men , .and railroad men were the-first onesjfhe sonfc to jail for contempt the contempt con sisting in violating a court order which aimed to restrain these men from exercising the rights of free speech as guaranteed by the con- i stitution. Railroad men have not j forgotten these facts , and a little j investigation along these lines among railroad employees will re veal the fact that they have their political knives out for the Taft scalp. A few weeks ago there was a meeting of a number of trades I unionists in Lincoln , called for \ the purpose of looking to the se curing cf representation in the next legislature. Jt was decided to ask the republicans to nominate , a couple of republican trades ! unionists , it being conceded that j the democrats would do so. Lancaster - i caster county is overwhelmingly republican and a republican nomi nation for the legislature is equiva lent to election. After deciding to make this request of the re publican managers it was thought j wise to appoint a committee of republicans - J publicans to do the requesting. Fourteen trades unions were rep resented at the meeting by twenty- tvv-o delegates. The committee was not appointed for the simple reason that out of the twenty-two men present not one would serve , ! each one declaring himself for j Bryan , though most of them were ! republicans , and each saying that he had made his decision known so emphatically that "he Avould do more harm than good" if he tried to approach the republican leaders. Significant , isn't it ? And iimay serve to give the people of the non-union centers some idea of ! the prevailing sentiment in indus trial centers. St. Nicholas Church.
