Sham Reform.
There was a wedding in the west
part of town Monday night and
many notables were there. A
charivari party , consisting of-boys
of all ages , from 12 years old up ,
were there and some partook free
ly of the beer that was provided
for the occasion by several per
sons chipping in.
THE VALENTINE DEMOCRAT is
not in favor of these parties nor
turning the boys loose for a gener
al jamboree , to drink and act like
demons because of no restrictions
placed upon them. Several of the
boys got beer there that could not
have obtained it from our saloon
keepers. Which is worse , a sa
loon that controls the output , or
two kegs of beer opened up frco
to all , with two pails full sitting
on the table and cups free to all to
use ?
There were men there who
should have been ashamed , and
from the part they took in the
recent village campaign , it is plain
that they had little interest in re
form as they pretended.
Shame on you men who will
contribute to place beer freely
within the reach of children who
are permitted to drink until they
are drunk. This is a sample of
sham reform that cranks , boot-
cggers and prohibitionists bring
ibout. There isn't a saloonkeeper - i
er in our town who would do it.
You men who are in favor of ,
these charivari parties can now see !
what it leads your boys into , and '
if you are heartily in favor of such
conduct you can prepare to raise
up a lawless generation.
The ball game played last Thurs
day between Valentine and Ains-
worth resulted in a score of 7 to 0
in favor of Aiusworth. Some re
marks were made that Ainsworth
had bigger and better batters.
There's when1 they had us beat.
Some of our boys are big enough
to bat well but they need practice ;
and before this season is over
we'll show the boys that Valen
tine can hit a ball. It takes prac
tice and we will get a few tallies
yet before they're all gone. Now
boys , try to get them in the first of
the game. Hit the ball anc . vun.
