We are authorized by the committee having in charge the candidacy of Gov. John son of Minnesota for the democratic nomination for president of the U. S. to of fer you , free of charge and express prepaid , plate mat ter of a purely democratic character , discussing the de bated topics of the day from the democratic standpoint as Gov. Johnson sees them. If you care for this please sign and mail inclosed post card. THE "WESTERN UXION. Thus we see that someone , or a combination , is willing to foot the bill for the pur pose of discussing uthe de bated topics of flic day , " "of purely democratic chai- acter , " "from the demo cratic standpoint as ( TOY. Johnson sees them. " What can they hope to win in Nebraska ? Our delegates are already named and instructed for AY. J. Bryan. Can it be that GOY. John son is lending his name for the purpose of getting second end place on the ticket , or is it a scheme to detract from our great Nebraskan and divide the sentiment for next election ? If it is for the former purpose we should be glad to "assist him. But if he does not admire Mr. Bryan and wishes to displace Bryan with him self , then he will find Xe- braska set against him. If ! lie is not the type of man Bryan is we want less of I him. Anyway , we arc will ing to leave the selection of second place to our dele gates. They will do their best. A merchant isn't going to ask who's going to use this coal or who's going to warm by this coal that he sells , but we know a man who complains that lie can't advertise in a paper that has advertisements of saloons. Then , he , apparently , does not want business from people ple who run bad , bad places but we haven't heard yet of his refusing to sell them coal or lumber or anything that lie has to sell that they need to keep them going But this same party used to send in his "free reading notices" of "free reading matter , " etc. We , don't like to refer to these things but some of these people are taking an active part in re questing persons taking THE DEMOCRAT to have their pa per discontinued , and , in a friendly way , we suggest their inconsistency. We might retaliate by asking our friends to not trade with these people who are work ing against us , but we shall not do so. We want them [ to trade where they will. Their trade does not hurt me , nor them , and they arc not getting enough to work over time , so let them sleep. Of cor.rro you have rum mag- ; ! and searched through all of grandmother's and auntie's jewel boxes , trunks and cellar chests for trinkets and jewelry with which to bedeck your vain per son. son.You You have found many things per haps that you used in ways that would seem weird and peculiar to those same ancestors , be they in thi.-5 world or tlio net. But have you taken possession of gran'lfalher's or tranduncle's or even daddy's odd cuff links ? If uol , the next rainy day go on a still hunt and gather together those male-loss , neglected articles you will be astonished what a varied collection you will probably find and the next bright day hie yourself to your pet jeweler or "man who mends things" and have him make hatpins of them for you. The cost is trilling , the result usual ly more than satisfactory. You will have your "woman's weap on" in a style as odd and a design equally as pretty as the long priced ones you have so coveted in the shop window and much more interosting. One girl unearthed a topaz cuff link and , deciding its old fashioned setting to be too dainty and prcttj' to be hid den among the puffs and malines of her headgear , had the back taken off , a ring put on the lop. and. lo. when hung from a tiny gold chain around her pretty neck , worn with a stunning costume of brown , with a touch of old ' blue , it was just wonderfully pretty. Tns Criminal New Zealsnclers. , The original New Zealanders were known as the most ferocious cannibals and the most warlike savages. They were big , gaunt fellows , of immense muscular force and great sagacity. These savage Xew Xeahuidors. though they ate their enemies , interred their ovn jdeail , and they believed that the third day after burial the heart sepa rated itself from the corpse and was carried to the clouds by an attendant spirit.
