Mrs. Wilkinson returned last week from a three months visit with friends in Iowa , Kansas and Colorado. I. Miss Kate Donoher returned last week from Omaha much im proved in health and is looking as well as usual. Last Saturday afternoon , P. H. Young met six of the deputy as- sors at the court house and talked over assessing matters. .las , H. Quigley and R. M. Fad- dis were at Rosebud the first cf the week making final arrange ments for the spring round-up. William B. Haley went down to O'Neill last Wednesday to attend the funeral of a cousin and then went on to Omaha to spend a few days. Mrs. McNichols and Mrs. Haley came down from Valentine Mon day to attend the funeral of Leo Hayes which takes place today. O'Neill Independent , Mrs , . W. E. Haley returned from O'Neill last week seriously ill and has since been confined to her bed. At present shejis rapid ly regaining strength. Stetter & Tobien are making de cided improvements in their meat market this week. They have taken out the old cooling room and are installing a new one which will be a credit to the town. The firm of Bauraann & Bache lor has been dissolved , Mr. Bache lor continuing the meat market business and Mr. Baumann retir ing. Mr. Baumann is yet unde cided as to what he will do , but in tends to remain in Valentine. SherinYRosseter took Charles Campbell , Jas. Frightened , Ernest Marks and Sol Marshall down to Lincoln Monday where each serves a year in he pen. W. S. Jackson accompanied him and expects tote to Omaha before returning. Miss Ada Lewis returned lasi Thusday from Omaha , where she had been attending school. Jake Hower's little child has scarlet fever at the home of its grandmother , Mrs. Brosius. E. B. Quible of Merriman at tended the Woodman convention h re yesterday and made this of fice a pleasant call. A. K. Wood & Co. have made arrangements to erect 12 houses in the agency for the Indians and the payment for them is guaran teed by the governraen t. Word has been received from Mesdames Tom Hornby and Chas. Sparks at Biloxi , Miss. , that the party has been greatly benefited by their stay in the south and ex pect to start home about the 15th of this month. John D. Eaton has bought the furniture and fixtures in the Don oher hotel and assumed charge this morning. Mr. Ghe goes to Lynch , where he will engage in the hotel business , and Mr. Spoo returns to his home in Iowa. Regular services will be held in St. John's church next Sunday as follows : Morning prayer and sermon at * 11 a. m , with a cele bration of the Holy Eucharist. Evening prayer am ! sermon at 7:30. : Sunday School 10 a. m. The Chase-Lister Company has come and gone and again has left with our people a decided impres sion that their three nights stand here was beneficial to all. The company stages highly moral and interesting plays and the individu al acting is above par. Eight of the coming citizens of Valentine will contest for a silver medal at the opera house Monday evening , April 6th. A varied pro gram will be rendered , entirely by ooys. The teachers in the public schools are assisting in the Drogram and a delightful evening is anticipated. Admission lOc. At a meeting of the school board Monday evening Prof. Watson , Misses Driscoll , Gordon and Holly were retained as teachers the com- ng year , and the former's salary vas raised to $125 per month. At the trial leld Saturday the prisoner was lismissed for want of sufficient evidence to hold him.
