The Sacrament of the Lord's
Supper will be celebrated in the
Presbyterian church the coming
Sunday morning at 10.30.
Miss Kortz was out visiting
schools in the neighborhood of
Kennedy last week. Miss Elsie
Sherman accompanied her.
Wm. Thunder Hawk is helping
on the paper this week. He
brought his little girl to have her
examined with the X-rays.

Mrs. Wallen Cameron , who
has been visiting with her daugh
ter Mrs W. W. Wells for the past
two weeks , returned Wednesday
morning to her home in Schuyler.
J. M. Moffett has decided to
stay another week \ralentine 'to
give stockmen a chance to get one
of his thorobred bulls. Notice his

Grandpa Ilamar and wife are
back from their visit of several
months at Eddyville Nebr. Mr.
Ha mar looks the same as before
he left and he doesn't think he has
grown a bit. They're enjoying
> 'ood health.
We hear that some people who
want to see Valentine go dry ; ire
wanting to put up a ticket for
town board honors , and hope to
catch all those who have a griev
ance against the present members
of our town board.
The citizens caucus convened at
the court room Monday night and
renominated the old board W. S.
Barker , A. X. Compton. and W.
S. Jackson , the two former for the
regular term of two years and Ihe
latter for one year to fill vacancy.
Last Saturday week Geo. and
John Brown , sons of W. F. Brown
of near Crookston , experienced a
disastrous runaway. While re
turning home with a load of hay
the team ran away , tipped the
load over and with the running
geers ran into a tree about 100
yards distant , killing the best
horse Mr , Brown had. Both
singletrees were broken , likewise
the reach in two places. The har
ness were also torn to pieces.
Fortunately the boys escaped
without injury.
Commercial Club
The Commercial club met at the
county judge's office Tuesday
night , completing its organization ,
and elected the officers and direc
tors as follows : C. II. Cornell ,
president ; E. C. Davenport , vice
president ; W. E. Haley , secre
tary ; Chas. Sparks , treasurer :
R. Li. Watson , W. A. Pettycrew
and Frank Bray ton , directors.
The new organization takes the
place of the old and the money in
the treasury of the old organiza
tion is transferred to the new.

Meetings will be held first Fri
day evening of each month. The
officers are instructed to look for
room or rooms suitable for the
club and report at the next meet
ing. The new membership is 81.
and monthly dues of 50c per
month in advance , me nbers stand
suspended if not paid up but may
be rc-instatcd by the payment of
all back dues and 25 per cent pen
alty. The secretary will circulate
the list for signers which ought to
represent the business interescs of
city.

Uecess has again been granted
to the school. This would have
been done before except that the
weather was too unsettled.
The high school spent a very
profitable afternoon at the farm
ers' institute last Friday. The
calk of Miss Kaufman on domestic
science was one of much interest
to the students and was met with
much approval.
The Rock county institute will
be held at Bassett this year. The
officers elect are Supt. Stockdale
of Wisner , Miss Gordon and Supt.
Watson of Valentine. Supt. Stock-
dale is well remembered here as
he distinguished himself during
the Valentine junior normal. Miss
Gordon is also very well known
as she is instructor in the primary
department here , which position
she has held for three years. Supt. '
Wathon is best known , having had '
charge of this school for years.
Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Hornby
gave a class reception last Satur
day evening in honor of the class
of 'OS. The house was decorated
in the class colors cardinal and
black. The first enjoyment of the j
evening was a "hunt. " By this
means each one obtained his part
ner. After this the following1
program was rendered :

into the dining room where a sup
per was laid upon the decorated
table. Toasts were given and responded - '
sponded to , as well as many little
jests. After supper was a guess-1
ing contest in which you were allowed - '
lowed to look for a moment at a
tray of articles and then go and
write all you could remember. !
Miss Estelle Nicholson won first' '
prize a small rose jar , and Prof.
Watson received the booby prize
a bunch of class flowers. After
a little chat they all departed to
their homes. Mr. and Mrs. Horn
by are always fine entertainers.
