PYGMALION AND GALATEA.
Synopsis of Play to be Giv
en by ' the Shakespeare
Club. Date Will Appeal-
Later/ Watch For It.
The scene of the play is in
ancient Athens. Pygmalion , a
renowned sculptor completes a
beautiful statute , modeled alVr
C.y isea , his wife , which he calls
Galatea. In his great enthusiasm
over the masterpiece he wishes
that the gods would give it life.
To his consternation , and at first ,
joy j , , the prayer is answered and
Galatea , his statute , stands before
him a living , breathing woman ,
perfect in beauty and innocence.
Then follows a great mix-up of
affairs , caused by this new born
statute , but finally all is righted
and the play closes without any
tears being shed.
Several hundred Indians came
to town last Thursday to dance
and visit our town as has been
their custom each July or August
for several years past. They are
a friendly , sociable people and en
joy the sport of riding into our
city at breakneck speed , yelling
and shooting , waving the stars and
stripes and accompanied by their
chief , Tuo Strikr , who always
rides his pony bareback. With
their customary war decorations
of paint and feathers they rode in
to our town simultaneously fro m
every street last Friday morning
at 6 o'clock before many were out
of bed and ostentatiously took the
town , following their ancient cus
tom of surprising the enemy. The
Indians rode , up and down ourj
streets with their glittering sabres i
and an occasional gun. Their
warwhoops resounded as in the
days of old but none of the old
time terror was there , but it was
the dusky Indians , the wildest and
most ferocious and relentless war
rior in his day. Our citizens cheer
these grand demonstrations of the
ancient strategy which took the
foe unawares and sometimes cap
tured the whole of a village as
prisoners without a hand raised in
residence. It's different no > v.
We like to see them come , and
we have learned to honor and respect - '
spect them , trust them , look for
ward to their visits and feel a sense
of loneliness when they have de
parted.
