The ninth grade dropped Civil Government and Physiology this week and took up in their stead Book-keeping and English Compo sition. The county superintendent com menced visiting the Valentine school with primary room about 2 weeks ago and is gradually work ing her way up through the grades. She has not yet reached- the * high school. Ralph Brosius entered the ninth grade last week. He has been do ing ninth grade work under Miss Ada Stindard in the district north of Valentine and will probably be able to go right on with the ninth grade work here. The wet , sloppy weather of last week has left its effect on the school. Many little ones have such bad colds that they are not able to be in school this week and some who are in school cough so hard that they would probably better be at home where their mothers' could doctor them. Ada Lewis and Lillian Holsclaw entered school this week to take up Book-keeping and English Composition with the ninth grade which is just beginning work in those two studies. The girls have no intention of finishing the work of the Valentine school but wish only to fit themselves as well as may be to enter a business college next-summer. Werprophesy-that they will wish before they are through with their business course that they had stayed in the Valen tine school a year or two longer. All teachers who are planning to take part in the reading circle work in Valentine on the second Saturday of February should read carefully chapters 5 , 6 , 7 and 8 , and note carefully the matter of each chapter and the order in which the chapters have been ar ranged. Every teacher should read Tennyson's "May Queen , " "Mew Year's Eve , " and "The Conclusion , " so as to be able to discuss them freely. Bring to class any poem or prose selection which will in any way help to illustrate Tone Quality as given in chapter five of the book on reading. A bill has been introduced into the Nebraska legislature to compel parents to send their children ito school until sixteen years of age instead of fourteen as the law now is. The period of at tendance must be for the full time ' . * Delicious in Flavor Pure in Quality . * + , I * jaBifA i ii-- * r - / ; , ft * T I . Ifs # , let us have it ' good and strong and for the full time school is in session in the district. W. C. T. U.foluinn. All hut eleven membere have come forward with dues to Sept. Now is the time to call in Maich dues , as will be seen by the Union Worker , t.he state treasurer's blanks will he sent out the first of Feb. , n ! - her books-will close by 1st of March. When all have paid up we will be able to report a mem bership of over 60 and 12 honorary members. If numbers count for anything what not he accomplished along temperance lines in Valen tine ? Let us rally to the front and make our influence felt. Mrs. Moon , superintendent of medal contests is endeavoring tote to makeup a silver medal contest class of young people. She would be glad for volunteers to join the class. A full set of contest books on hand. No line of work brings more satisfactory results to the W. C. T. U. 'than medal contests , and we hope our county superintendent ; of contests , Mrs. Lottie Cramer will make a strenuous effort to hold a contest somewhere in the coanty outside of Valentine before conven tion time.
