The free rest and reading room
opened on July 2 , 1906 , with a
fine collection of magazines and
papers and some books. Through
the kindness of our editors , the
county papers were on hand each
week , and most of the time the
daily papers were donated and ap
preciated by many who came in
to read. Nothing but good litera
ture was on the table. A hearty
welcome was given to all and no
trouble was spared to make people
ple comfortabble , after a long
dusty ride , or a ride through the
rain or cold , or to feel some moth
er's arms occasionally from a
sleeping infant , since conveniences
for all these emergencies were at
hand. Without counting anyone
more than once the number of
callers received during the month
of July were 135 , August , 175 ;
September , 190 ; October , 200.
Sent several boquets to the sick ;
gave away 65 large packages of
good reading matter. Financial
statement will be given later.
Bethel hall will be closed Oct. 31 ,
for the winter , except for special
occasions. WG thank all who
aided us in this enterprise.
