From Sfcuarl Ledger.
If Mr. Sheldon is elected , it will
be railroad influence that does it
by keeping in the background and
pretending they are for Shallen-
Sheldon set his gubernatorial
nest egg four years ago. He says
lie stopped riding on a pass a year
ago. Why because it was wroiig ,
or because he had to ?
Mr Douglas said Friday evening
at the court house in Bassett that
when he and Mi1. Sheldon were in
the legislature four years ago , that
he had started Sheldon's boom for
governor. Mr , Sheldon has had 4
years coaching behind the scenes
and acts his part well.
I MORES WON't'VDEBATE' ' . '
i mi i > i ( jc L.
we challenged M. P. Kinkaid on
October 6th for a series of joint
debates between the candidates for
congress. On October 14 , he vis
ited Alliance , and talked the mat
ter over with some of his friends
here , but did not honor us by a
call. On October 19. he wired ac
ceptance , to which we immediately
responded by wire that we would
meet him in Alliance on October
22nd , where he was to appear
with Mr. Sheldon , and we would
arrange dates. Rather than meet
us , he cancelled his engagement.
Instead of immediately informing
us of his change of plans , he wrote
us , dated Oct. 19 , postmarked Oct.
22 , and received by us Oct. 25.
In his letter he suggested that the
details of the debate be arranged
by correspondence. We would
have a merry chase to catch the
artful dodger before election by
correspondence. Inasmuch as he
has made it impossible to have
these debates , and we deem it fail-
that the public should know where
our candidate stands on subjects
of interest , we give a synopsis of
his position :
Honesty is the foundation of civic
virtue ; and agriculture is the founda
tion of national wealth. G. LShum -

G. L. SIIU3HVAY.

Where will ) ou find Mr. Kin-1
taid on any of these questions ?
Has any person ever heard him
express himself on any of the
above questions ? Now , is it not
time that this district be represent
ed in Washington by a man of
ideas and vigorous enough to
stand up in their defense , instead
of by an impotent old dandy , who
thinks all the qualifications neces
sary for a statesman is to array
himself in a pair of corsets and a
Prince Albert coat , fill his pockets
with free transportation , and dodge
in and out through the district ?
Who never was known to have a 1
pronounced idea of his own , a
trimmer and a dodger ?
In behalf of our nominee we
ask the suffrage of the people of :
this district , and pledge them that
if elected every promise will be
carried out to the letter.
The election of Moses P. Kin
kaid , means the continuation in
ofiice of an incompetent.
The election of G. L. Shum way
means a vigorous representative
whose position on any subject is
never in doubt.
EGBERT GRAHAM ,

T. M. Bishop of Shawnee , Okla. ,
a brother of T. W. Bishop , was |
here several days the past week
visiting. They had not seen each
other for nineteen years and each
bad changed remarkably. Mr.
Bishop expressed himself as well
pleased with the country here ,
though the weather was severe
then and may return here to live. }
should be deeply interested in what he has said about soda
crackers , because they are the one food with which all of
them are familiar.
Uncle Sam has given out figures showing that soda
crackers are richer in nutriment and body-building elements ,
properly proportioned , than any food made from flour.
This is saying much for common soda crackers , and
much more for Uneecfa BlSCUit , because they are
soda crackers of the best quality. They arc baked better
more scientifically. They are packed better more cleanly.
The damp , dust and odor proof package retains all the good
ness and nutriment of the wheat , all the freshness of the best
baking , all the purity of the cleanest bakeries.
Your Uncle Sam has shown what food he thinks best
for his people. His people have shown that they think
UeiQSda BiSCUQt the best of that food , nearly
400,000,000 packages having already been consumed.
