No complaint haviug been filed here , they were turned loose , for , on account of their ex treme youth , the county judge had no jurisdiction. The parents of the boys were here and took them tJiome. Several weeks ago , while build ing fence , Len Parker unfortunate ly run a barb into the palm of his left hand. Mr. Parker came to town at that time and had his hand which was pretty badly swollen when he arrived here , dressed. After returning home blood poison set in and Dr. Compton was called out to the ranch several times. Len was in town Monday , and though looking pale and his hand badly swollen yet , seemed to be getting along nicely. Friday night the belated freight train No. 82 broke in two as it came down the grade. The engi neer noticing the break backed up at a lively rate , striking the back part of the train with such force that the occupants of the coach were badly bruised and shaken up. J. A. Stewart , a civil engineer of Deadwood , and in the employ of the C. & N. W. , was thrown from one side of the car to the other , receiving a bad cut on the head. He was brought to town and his head sewed up. It seem that a coupling had broken a few stations behind and , instead of properly fixing it , the trainmen had merely chained it together , and while go ing ut a high rate of speed it be came loosened , resulting in an ac cident which might have been worse than it was.
