week and his wife accompanied

in our city last Friday transacting
business in probate court. He

Borman-Ferstel district and has
gone out to C. S. Reece's to
spend the summer.
The Sterling Stock company
gave an excellent play at the opera
house last Saturday night. They
expect to return in about three
weeks and play "Faust. "
Charles T. Maxwell and C. A.
Austin returned from W. H.
Hooper's last Saturday where
they had built an addition to Mr.
Hooper's house , 16x20 ft.
At a meeting Tuesday night of
the B. & L. stockholders the old
board of managers was re-elected ,
excepting that > . E. Sherman was
elected instead of G. A. Chapman.
J. T. Keeley , F. A. Cumbow ,
Thomas Watkins and Fred Jones
were shocked by lightning while
down to the Mmnechaduza lake
fishing last Sunday. A close call.
Sam Bordeaux , the printer on
the New Era at the Boarding
school , drove down'last Saturday
with ( ieo. Cyphers , who went to
Oihulia as a witness in one'of the
land fraud cases.
Fred Holsclaw has just returned
from the Rake ranch where he has
been plastering a house , and is ex
pecting to go out to Haber and
Grange's to do some work this
week. Fred does all kinds of
mason work and plastering.
L. 0. Pearson , a congregational
missionary , preached at Thacher
last Sunday evening and organized
a Sunday school. Mr. Diehl was
elected superintendent and the first
meeting will be held Sunday at
10:30 a. m. , at the Thacher school
house.
A. M. Morrissey , Wm. Stead-
man , D. M. Sears , Ed Richards ,
Homer Tait and Lee Shepard re
turned yesterday morning from
Omaha where they had been for
more than a week as witnesses in a
case in federal court , in which
Mason , a cattle buyer , and Faddis
and Steadman were the parties in
terested. The boys tell a good
joke on a part of the number who
went out for a ride in an automo
bile. Everything went well for a
time and John Bachelor's team
wasn't in it with.-the auto and he
was going to sell it and buy a ma
chine that wouldn't get tired when
he got back home , but the auto
mobile balked just about that time
and the boys had to hoof it back
to the street car to get back up
town. John wouldn't give his
team now for a car load of uutos.

VALENTINE WILL CELEBRATE
Valeniine people have decided
to .celebrate the Fourth of July ,
and a meeting has been dalled to
meet in the County Judge's office
next Monday night at S o'clock to
make arrangements. Watch for

C. M. Sageser and wife have
gone to Minneapolis , Minn. , to
spend the summer in hopes of
benefitting Mrs. Sageser's health.
George Kraft is running the Mr.
Sageser's shop during his absence ,
and is assisted by J. T. Butler ,
"formerly of Newport , and later of
Neligh and Sioux City.
James Goodfellow , a prosperous
and prominent stockman of Ash
land Nebr. , and ajso the owner of
a fine ranch south'of Merriman ,
was in town last week on busi
ness and bought a 40-acre tract of
'land adjoining his ranch , which
because of competition , cost him
considerably more than the usual
price or value of government land.
At the recent term of court ,
Edith Poyser was granted a di
vorce from C. W. Poyser and had
restored to her , her maiden name ,
( Dunham ) . William Hector was
granted a decree to quiet title. In
the matter of Jacob & . Yaryan vs
Laura Yaryan , the latter was
granted divorce on cross petition
and- allowed 82,000 alimony , $200
attorney fees and § 25 per month
for , and the care and custody of
the two children ,
