Dave Hancock and Chas. Peddi-
cord drove up last Friday from
the Rake ranch and went down
the river.
James Hull is having his saloon
repainted on the inside , walls and
ceiling , and the outside front. It
will look a .great deal neater when
finished. \ '
Charles Jordan , the Wood Lake
hotel man was in our city Tues
day looking for a dwelling and
contemplates moving back to Val
entine soon.
A. H. Stees of Kennedy and P.
H. Young of Simeon came in last
Tuesday and attended Masonic
lodge , some special 'work being
listed for Tuesday night.
D. E. Burdick and wife and
Mrs. John Kittle were up from
Penbrook last Saturday. Mrs.
Hittle was a pleasant caller at our
office before returning home.

Homer Tait , Lee Shepard , Ed
Richards and D. M. Sears went
down to Omaha yesterday to at
tend a trial in the Federal court.
H. B. Clapp of Simeon was in
town yesterday and called at our
office to pay his subscription a
year in advance. He has just filed
on 200 acres as an additional home
stead to add to his present hold
ings.
Ted Ormosher had the misfor
tune about ten days ajro. while
stretching barb wire at his- place
on the Schlagel , to have his foui
fingers on the left hand badlj

Mrs. Libbie E. Piercy died aftei
a brief illness last Friday morning ,
May 4,1906 , at eight o'clock oj
heart failure at the Piercy ranci

about 60 years old at her deatl
and leaves a family of grown u\
sons and daughters as previously
mentioned at the death of Mr
Piercy which occurred March 25

W ; T. Bishop had his dwelling
reshingled last week and recently
rebuilt and reshingled his livery
and feed barn , making consider
ably more room. .He also built an
office. x
The Sterling Stock Co. will play
a return date Saturday , May 12th ,
with an entire change of
play and specialties. Those who
remember this company several
weeks ago in "The Runaway
Tramp" were well pleased and
will go again to see "Twister" in
another role and hear the ladies'
orchestra.

Quite a number of pupils have
been absent on account of sickness.
The Physical Geography class
was out doing field work Wednes
day afternoon.
The seventh grade is busy draw
ing maps and making a special
study of Nebraska.
Prof. "VYatson was up to Rush-
ville last Saturday and attended
the teachers' association. He addressed -
dressed the teachers in the after
noon and the citizens in the eve
ning at the M. E. church.
It is nearly five weeks before
normal begins , but as many as 50
persons have already engaged their
rooms and board. This shows
quite an interest in the work and
that thu're will be a large attend
ance.
