The preliminary plans for the Corn Growing and Corn Cooking contest appeared in the last issue of the Nebraska Farmer. On Sept. 1 , ' 07 , the new law goes into effect requiring twelve weeks as the minimum normal training for a first grade county certificate. A teacher certificated under the old law , who attends a summer school approved by the state sup erintendent , at least six weeks , may have all of her grades accept ed upon approval by the county superintendent of the proper coun ty and made state grades , except in the five essentials. Upon such attendance the only examination required in the five essentials will be in Heading and one other of the five essentials at her selection with the advice and consent of the county superintendent of the proper county. Teachers not intending to at- teiijl the summer school should take their examination in March , April or May , and thus lessen the burden of work that will of a necessity fall upon the examiners in June and August. M.tHodgrnan , inspctor of High Schools in Nebraska , is visiting the high school today. The cold and snow has caused a slight decrease in attendance in the 2nd primary room. The 3rd grade are studying the map oi' Cherry county. On Friday morning Louis Hoe- nig gave an explanation of "Me tabolism. " This is the continual process of tearing down and build up of the organisms in the body. It's solely a process which dis tinguishes the living organism from the dead. Last Thursday morning Ethel Sherman explained , "Fletcherism" to the school. Fletcherism is the practice of right eating and masti cating the food which makes peo ple both healthier and happier. A man by the name of Fletcher dis covered this experiment-and has practiced it.
