Last Friday night a box social was given at Crookston for the benefit of Kev. Parson. The re ceipts were § 20. Miss Venia Keller gave a recital at Harmony last Saturday night. Although the attendance was small the selections were well appre ciated by those present. Sparks Quills. Chas. Smith is husking corn for C. F. Callen. Aetna Breachbill was in Sparks Monday night. Henry Grooms went down to Norden Sunday. Dave Archer has been hauling oats to John Neiss' . Paul Newland is Husking corn for Aetna Breachbill. Three travelers camped with Mr. Callen Monday night. Mr. Peterson went to town Mon day with a load of wheat. Sunday , we saw seven loads of grain enroute to Valentine. Eay Polen and Jim Burgett were out airing themselves Sunday. John C. Jaquins has been hauling potatoes to town the past week. Mr. Lansing of Valentine is husking corn for Henry Grooms. Frand Grooms went out to E. Grooms' last week with a load of oats. lake Hower went to town Sunday and returned Monday with a load of lumber. Pete Lower was enroute for Ern est Bowden's Monday evening with ft load of potatoes. We need a hotel at Sparks now as there is lots of travel on the road and no where to stay. Miss Clara Crowe of Merriman , but who is now teaching in Gordon , visited at Sparks part of last week. We understand that there will be an entertainment at the Bristol school house Wednesday night , Nov. 29. A social in connection. Mr. Theunert and wife , uncle an aunt of Mrs. Callen , and Mr. and Mrs. Hilsinger spent Sunday at Mr. Gallon's. The former are from St. Louis. Frank Osborne , who had the mis fortune of breaking his arm about six weeks ago , accidently broke it over again one day last week and is suffering severe pain at this writing. When our young lady friends come out from town to spend Sun day and would like to have mention in the paper , they should recollect that their humble servant , the Por cupine , is a bachelor , and as they did not come by our mansion , we had no way of knowing that they were visiting old friends in this lo cality. Our locality was pretty well rep resented in Valentine last Saturday : Pioy Kuskie , Dave Hamar , Al Law rence , Will Copelan , Thaddus Jelly , John and Wm. Grooms , William Allen , Chas. Burdick , Ben Peterson , Pete Lower , Frank Grooms , Pole and Tom Hudson , Joe Jenett , Dave Archer , Sam Burgett , Felix Nollett , John Shelbourn , Martin Becker and possibly several others whomve did not see. V PORCUPINE. Down the River. Aaron Grooms was in town Sat urday. Messrs. Graef and Brosius spent Suaday at Mr. Beckers. - Miss Mary Bryant has been very sick for the past two weeks. There will be an oyster supper at Mr. Hooper's Saturday night. Dave Owens and wife of near Sparks , brought a load of grain to town Tuesday. Mrs. Eaton of Valentine came out to Mr. Spratt's recently * to look at her cattlo. Misses Newman and Grooms were in town Saturday and spent , Sunday visiting relatives. Frank Grooms of Sparks is visit ing with his brothers , Dick and Sam Grooms , near Valentine. There will be a social at the Prairie yiew school house Dec. 2nd. A program will be rendered. Mrs. Eva Bazey of Valentine is visiting old friends in this neigh borhood. ; Frank Lewis and family and Mr , and Mrs. Hittle are all about sick with the grippe. MissEffie Hutchison is visiting at home this week and incidentall helping cook for the threshers. Walter Todd has bought in So. Dakota about 2500 head of sheep , He is holding them at present near Simeon. Dave Hoover has traded his team for five bronchos. He is trying to get a couple of them used to the rattle of the corn on the "throw board. " Born , Sunday , Nov. 5,1905 , to G. E. Burdick and wife , a son. He is a strong hearty boy. Dick says corn huskers are in big demand. But I hear the youngster lias a vio lin in one hand and a bow in the other and is yelling , "Eurry up boys ! " Threshing is about completed in this community. Mr. Porter thresh es the Hancock grain Monday. Mr. Porter has one of the finest steam threshers ever seen in this neigh borhood. All new , with self feed and a straw "blower , " it does fine and fast work. Mrs.Esther [ Hutchison returned to Colorado after nearly a year's yisit at the home of her son , A. W. Hutchison. Mr. Hutchison accom panied his mother on her return and will make a brief visit to rela tives in Colorado. Mrs. Hutchison is 80 years old. Her hearing and sight is better than many half her age. She has been the mother of twelve children and is today an active , hearty oman. Her fund of experience and anecdotes make her a charming acquaintance , while her strong , good sense and kindly nature make her to be desired as a friend. EAGLE.
