Lauren Jones the present editor
of the Gordon Journal came out
last week with his salutation in
which he outlines the situation.
We have known Mr. Jones about
five years and know nothing but
good of him. He is modest , un
assuming and gentlemanly , a schol
ar of considerable talent and is in
the field where his ability will be
appreciated. ' We wish him suc
cess.
The Gordon Journal has swapped
editors. The former editor , H. G.
Lyon has stepped down without a
"farewell or a wave of the hand nor
docs any one seem to care if he'll
just stay in the back alleys some
where and keep out of sight. This
part of the country has seen enough
of the aristocrat who speaks of his
wife's company as having once
been a "domestic in our family , "
and is always trying to solve the
servant problem on paper. Down
and out with padded aristocracy
and let this nation be free.
"Let net Caesar's servile minions
Mock the Lyon thus laid low
It was no human hand that slew him
'Twas his own thatstruck the blow. "
Uncredited Ram's Horn blasts
and Globe Sights don't make an
editorial page of a good newspaper
but they fit nicely in the setter ,
once said a printer , of Lyon's pa
per. The man succeeding Lyon
as editor of the Journal is well
known as an honest , honorable
young man and is well liked by all
who know him. If Lyon will let
him alone and keep out of the of
fice he will be successful in getting
back all the trade that belongs to
the Journal , but the people will
insist upon knowing that Lyon has
nothing to do with the paper.
Valentine Democrat : Strikers
do not congregate for lawful pur
poses. They are insurrectionists
and should be handled as such.
You talk like a man without
Reason and surely like one having
. .no "knowledge of the purposes and
and intents of organized labor. It
would satisfy our curiosity to bave
a phrenologist examine your head.
Ainsworth Star Journal.
This a fair sample from that wild
man from Borneo who poses as a
great man and nominates a gov
ernor in his little insignificant pa
per. Burleigh thinks he is a great
man because he got a job down at
Lincoln as proof reader and pro
ceeds to talk about John H. Mick
ey for vice president of the. United
States and winds up by nominating
him for governor to succeed him
self. This Burleigh also has a
great habit of prating about his
brother who is a methodist preacher
whiclxhe thinks will help to estab
lish the fact that he is a great man.
Now Burleigh , posing as a friend
to the laboring man , means but
little. It's all bullyragging and
braggadocio with him and a spasmodic
medic spasm seizes him when some
one says something he hasn't heard ;
before. It's plain that he wants |
to go with public opinion and would
like to be recognized as a great
man and friend to organized labor.
Yes , he would even follow them in
their strikes stand with them in
congregated mobs for the purpose
of keeping off other laborers who
have an equal right to work and
earn a living. Yes , again we
would find Burleigh organizing
one half of the laboring men to call
the other half scabs and using a
every effort to keep them from * ]
earning their bread and butter. I
