Clifford waters' an ex- soldier was.shot . in the lef tshoulder by another ex-soldier by the name of Sparks in'a quarrel over a girl. * * * The bullet entered near the clavicle and ranged backward to the left scapula and was located by the X Ray-under the scapula near the centre" the back. A report of a shooting affray which occurred on the caboose ° f train 27while the same stood at Cod ; * station on last Friday evening. This report says that Mel Ganow his son , Jake , and a Mr. Denny , who owns ranch south of Merri- man , were passengers on this train , returning from Valentine where they had been involved in a land contest case. All parties were per ceptibly under the influence of "lemonade"'or some other liquid refreshment. Words werepassed between Mel Ganow and Denny , and the latter drew a pocket gun and'discharged it a time or twoin- to the roof of the car. On this point reports conflict. Some say that Ganow caughtthe gun and threw it up out of range of his head , and others say that Denny purpo- sely threw up his own gun ; But fortunately no one was seriously hurt. Cody Cow Boy. TVe heard that no shots were fired , but that Mel Ganow and Denny were each struck over the head with a revolver. ED. Allen Eothchilds , the colored man who was 'shot in the mouth last 'Wednesday evening Dec. 24 , was "brought to Dr. Lewis' drug store Tuesday to ha.ve the bullet remov ed which was thoughtnecessary by the physicians to save him : t He * 'died however before the operation > was "performed" "and a 'coroners jury was immediately summoned by Sheriff Layport and Coroner Lewis , consisting of W. A. Kim- , ball , John Simpson--Wm , Steele ; Samuel' Hudson Wm' Francke and I. M. Rice. TheVerdict'was prepared by Co. Attorney Mor- rissey and was to the effect that Allen Rothchilds came to his death as a result of a bullet in the mouth from a 44 caliber revolver fired by Sunny-Ford ( colored-with ) felon ious intent. J. H. " Stratton took .charge of the body and the funeral will take place today ( Thursday ) if no word is received from the de ceased's relatives. A. couple"of colored soldiers from ihe post remained in the depot until train time and heard nothing farther from Simms.
