HEREFORD AXD SHORTHORN
BREEDERS TO JOIN FORCES
AT SIOUX CITY.
Probably the greatest sale of pure
bred cattle ihot has ever been held
in the nortl' vest , will be held at ,
Sioux City , ] nva , the first week in
November. 1C of the most prominent
Hereford and Shorihorn breeders ir
the United States have entered int (
a combination to sell at public auc
tion , 37S head of registered Here
ford and Shorthorn cattle. The
Shorthorn breeders will sell 70 head
on Thursday , November 01 h , among
which are several imported animals.
There are 20 head of pure Scotch cat
tle of highest merit. One of the
breeders interested , speaking of this
lot.says : "No better lot will be of
fered for sale tins season. " The re
mainder of the Shorthorns are high-
elass cattle , most of them with sev
eral Scotch top * ; . GO head of the
Shorthorns 1o be sold are cow's and
heifers , cither with calves at side ,
or safe in calf , and 10 bulls.
The consignors are C/S. Barclay &
Son , W. P. Nichols , C. , C. Bigler &
Son , Brown , Randolph Bros. & Igo ,
all of Iowa.
The Hereford breeders are selling
10S head on Friday and Saturdaj- ,
November 7th and Sth. The offering
consists of SO cows and heifers , most
of which are in calf or have calves
at side , and 28 bulls of serviceable
ages. As the breeders who are sell
ing these Hereford cattle are among
the most prominent in the country
nnd have a reputation for breeding
high-class cattle , they can be trusted
to send a good useful lot of cattle.

It should be a source of satisfac
tion to the farmers and stockgrow
ers of the northwest to see two of
the leading breeds of cattle join
hands in making a sale at Sioux City ,
especially where breeders of such
prominence as the consignors to this
sale , are interested in it. The dis
tribution of these caftlc in this coun
try , will tend to vas-'fy improve our
cattle , and it is to be hoped that sev
eral head of them , w'll come to this
neighborhood. It vr-il be worth a
trip to Sioux City , to the farmers
and stockmen of this vicinity to sec
tho e cattle , whether they wish to
buy or not. One of theconsignors
to the sale said , in speaking of their
offering , that they did not expect
fancy prices , but were desirous of
inaugurating Hereford sales at Sioux
City , two or three times a year , feel
ing sure that if the people in the
vicinity of Sioux City once becama
familiar with the merits-of the Here
ford breed , there would be no trouble
in disposing of a great many of their
cattle at this market each year.
