E. L. Heath was in town Monday.
M , G. Hopkins is reported quite sick
at Lincoln ,
J. W. "Whillins is very low with
pneumonia.
Mrs. W. A. Pettycrew is on the sick
list this week.
Miss Edna McDonald is visiting with
Miss Davenport.
Mr. Austin , of Simeon , was in town
the first of the week.
Miss Mary fliggins is visiting the
Misses Keeley this week.
Ed Blakey , stock inspector , was in
town the first of the week.
1 Mr. Lovejoy , from out south , trans
acted business in Valentine Monday.
John Thompson and wife were in
our city Tuesday getting supplies.
Edward Ormesher was in town
Tuesday from his ranch south of town.
Itvas a mistake. Jas. Mangan
didn't buy the Watson building as we
reported last week ,
Miss Wren Donoher has gone out to
visit with Mrs. Win. Ferdon at the
ranch near Brownlee ,
Carl Wilber moved to the residence
property , he recently purchased in
the northwest part of town , Tuesday.
Jas. Wellford and family moved
the first of the week into the Mont
gomery building across the street
north of this ofllce.
Fish Pettycrew , who resides out on
the north table , called at this office
while in town Tuesday and got a pack
age of garden seeds.
Just received , a quanity of Prussian
Stock and Poultry food at Anderson &
Fischers. Notice their big ad for gen
eral Hardware and Stoves.
Phil Fleming brought a bunch of
cattle in for A. Benson Monday , and
TuesdayVent out to John Adamson's
to gefseverai more head.
Miss Iva Efner packed up her mil
linery goods and shipped to Spring
field where she will open up a millin
ery store for the coming season.
- The entertainment which was to
have been held at the Harmony
school house last Saturday evening
was postponed until a week from next
Saturday.
Women will deceive , decoy , entice
and lead felloe beings to misery and
despondency. They will guide with
loving companionship and correct
teaching into bliss.
Frank Mogle , a son of Judge Mogle ,
of Cody , and a ranchman of Boiling
Springs precinct , was in our city Tues
day on business. He went back on 27
so his time here was limited and he
did not get to call on us.
W. H , Weekes , of Omaha , and form
erly of the Scribner News , is now em-
ploved in this office. Mr. Weekes is
an old newspaper man with an abund
ance of experience in type setting
and running a newspaper.

Henry Flineaux , one of the pros
perous ranchmen of Simeon , called on
us last Saturday while in town and sbt

Misses Lillian and Mary Nelson of
Cody , were pleasant Valentine visit-
tors Saturday. Miss Lillian return-
en home in the afternoon but Miss
Mary remained to attend our excell
ent school for the remainder of the
term.
Jas. Vincent came up Monday from
Woodlake to transact business in our
city. We enjoved a pleaaant visit
from him. We wish Messers Davis
and Vincent a prosperous llverv busi
ness at Woodlake and believe they
are the kind of men to succeed.
Rasmus Hansen's wife and son ,
Frankie , arrived from Denmark last
Saturday night. Mrs. Hansen ia en
joying good health but the little boy
is not well. He has had lung trouble
for several weeKs and at present is
not as strong as we hope he will be
soon , when the summer sun shines
warm again. Mr. Hansen and family

Jimmy Smith visited in town several
days last week.
Jas. Marley's pleasant face was seen
on our streets yesterday.
8. Q , Spain was in town after freight
and supplies last Friday.
Mr. Wray and Mr. Cox , of Crookston ,
were in our city yesterday.
Oba Church has returned after a'few
weeks absence at Alliance , Nebr.
We saw John Britt and Wm. Bullis
on our streets this week from Britt.
County commissioners and assessors
meeting will take place Tuesday ,
March 18.
A. Newberry and wife , of Cody , were
down to visit the ophtholmologist , Dr.
I'errigo.
Max E. Viertel , one of the Crookston
merchants and hotel keeper Folks , were
in our city yesterday on business.
The Valentine Dancing Club will
give a dance on Monday evening March
17. Put on your shamrocks and come
to this grand ball to enjoy a good time
on St. Patrick's day.
Spring has come when you see straw
hats and summer pants. Views of
summer time will soon be a reality

mountain side north of the Minne- ?
chaduza and see sights that pen can
never portray in its real beauty.
The practical gardeners of Nenzel
have been supplied with a choice se
lection of garden seeds from this offi
ce. They have the reputation as ex
cellent gardeners and besides know ,
how to raise corn in abundance. Good

T. P. Hudson and G. W. McFarland
wejre in town Monday and called en
us to get some of the garden seeds.
Mr. Hudson bad a wheel for us on sub
scription. It swells our head to have
the good people call on us but the
wheels keep our hat from getting
tight-so come on with the wheels.
Chas. B. Cook , the young man who
has worked on the DEMOCRAT since
Nov. , 1900 and lost only two days dur
ing that time , has decided to go west
and quit work last week. We can
say for nim without solicitation that
he is a faithful and honest worker ,
quick and ready at all times to work
and earn his wages. We cheerfully
recommend himt
0. W. Morey will go down to New
port next Wednesday and Thursday ,
March 1'J and 13 , and will be at Sturt
Friday and Saturday , March 14 and 15
to do work in his line , fitting eyes with
glasses , correcting eyesight and repair
work. Mr. Morey is an expert in his
line and is always on the alert to get
new ideas and up-to date methods of
testing the eyes. He has built up a
large business here in Valentine and is
now enlarging his field of operation to
make room for his boys , who are grow
ing up.
Frank Fisher went down to Neligh
yesterday morning to transact busi
ness and from there will go to Water
loo la. , his former home. It will be a
nice visit for Mr. Fisher and his old
friends there who knew him years ago
will be glad to see him no doubt as he
will enjoy seeing them and note the
changes that have taken place , Mr.
Fisher will go to Dubuque Iowa and
Geneva Lake Wis. to visit some cous
ins whom he hasn't seen in 30 years.
He will take in the sights at Mil
waukee , Chicago and other eastern
cities and will be absent three weeks
or a month.

Miss Nelson , of Cody , was enrolled
in the 10th grade , Monday.

Miss Pettijohn was absent two days
this week on account of illness.
There are several new enrollments ,
especially in Miss Mutchmore's room.
