Monday we looked for a storm but
Tuesday morning the sun came out
again and the day was as bright ] and
pleasant as during the past couple of
weeks Who wouldn't enjoy living in
Nebraska with such weather as this ?
No' mud and very little wind except
ing in the spring and fall for a few
davs. We have more bright sunshine
and good weather than most any
where else east of the Rocky mount
ains.
F. M. Segar , from the north table
was in town Saturday and called at the
DEMOCRAT office. Mr. Segir : came
here about 18 years ago and started in
witt about $80 in money but owed § 100.
So he was worse off than even with the
world. Siucu that time Mr , Scgar has
worked when he folt like it and has
lived as well as most of them , but he
has been improving his farms which he
procured at different times as he had
the money to invest and now is worth
several thousand dollars. A comfort
able home has been built up and any
one who wants to know how a man can

There was a nice dance at the Arabia
school house last Friday night. The
local musicians , known as the Arabia
Orchestra , composed of five talented
young men who would do credit to
themselves before almost any audience ,
furnished excellent music for tne oc
casion. In the appreciation of this by
the lovers of dancing and especially the
good music , nearly one hundred per-
sous gathered for a good time , bringing
baskets of good things for supper In
tending to remain long enough to get
hungry. The school house was com
modious but the stove occupied too
much valuable space and was removed
the evening being warm enough with
out it. About 80 numbers were soon
disposed of aftei having danced at
pleasure for a couple of hours. There
were more good looking girls aud hand
some men there than usually attend a
public dance and there was enjoyment
foe all with no apparent rivalry or con
testing factions. Yes , all was harmon
ious and couldn't well be otherwise
where there are good people and good
music. We ought to have a few more
subscribers for the VALENTINE DEMO
CRAT at Arabia and would like a cor
respondent from there. It is a nice
community and ought to be heard from.
