Henry Brown of near Sparks has
bought the Jake Hower place on the
river from Henry Letgett Mr
Brown and his wite were in town Mon
dav to doctor the babv for eczema

John P Jones came in Saturday
from W E Waites ranch for a load
of supplies It was reported that J
P had the smallpox but he tells us
that if he did there was no alarm as
he never lost a day from work
Cody is to have two newspapers
and a whole lot of other things We
wonder how the Land Office Depart
ment Method Combination will look
at these matters It does put a dif
ferent face upon matters and looks
something like a tiger

day evening to take the next train for
Omaha where she goes for medical
treatment for a timeas she has beenJ
ailing for some time Mr Linebrink
is carrying the mail between Chester
field and- Newton and Mrs Linebrink
had to come in with one of the neigh
bors
We hear that Pettijphn Towle Co
are thinking of starting a newspaper
in Valentine to corner the patronage
afforded by the U S Land Qfliec
This will pet haps enable the home
steader to prove up cheaper under
the department store method Also

D R Riedel of near Chesterfield
has sold his hay claim to Dan Adam
son Both are made happy by the
deal Mr Riedel will go to Sheldon
Mont to assist in running a sawmill
in a lumber camp in partnership with
a brother who has been up there a
number of years and is doing well
Mr Riedel has made a number of
friends in Cherry county that will be
sorry to see him go and will be glad
to have him return if he does not find
things to his satisfaction where he
goes Here is an example of what in
ducements our county formerly of
fered when there were good lands va
cant Mr Riedel dropped into our
county without a dollar and hatless
He now has a lbtjof property besides
a neat bank account of 2000 and
more So much for the past five
years of careful management

guard cases of the disease and to
fe t iat no nii exposed was allowed
j freedom on the streets keeping them
under quarantine 14 days after being
exposed We wont have none of your
slap jacks when our slap jacks are
gone
