The Circus
Our town board managed the day
well and should be congratulated on
their wise precautions in selecting
such men for marshals as would carry
out their instructions on circus day
There was a good crowd in and there
was no disturbance of any kind Nor
was there drunken nor disorderly con
duct A few cases of beer were lifted
from Henry Stetters warehouse at
night by some of the thirsty pack
ers just before the train pulled out
but Sheriff Layport followed them to
Gordon the next dav and they paid
the bill There was no gambling
short change or shell games run and
on the whole we have seen few shows
that had a nicer lot of men in their
employ than this one seemed to have
Jay Harner the young man who
sold honey coated popcorn red lem
onade and concert tickets formerly
lived in Riley county Kan near La
sita and was a former acquaintance
and contemporary pedagogue of the
editor of this paper His father and
brothers still live in -Riley and Clay
counties Kansas and are highly re
spected and well educated men
