Friday evening May 18th Since the full ten members of this class have graduated and delivered orations on previous years we have concluded to have a lecture this year and have secured the very best man we could hear of through recommend ations -to deliver the lecture Frank M Chaffee of Boston We know the church will not nearly hold the crowd on that evening and as this lecture will be of such a nature that very few children below the 6th grade will be interested parents will be doing a kindness both to the children and to the public in general if as far as pos sible small children be left at home on that evening Remember this is only r suggestion Knowing how tired and restless children become trying to listen toa lecture which is beyond them There will be no admission charged and every one who comes will be admitted as long as there is room in the church R H Watson Meeting at Sparks Mr Cutlerrepresenting the Cream ery Company accompanied by C H Cornell went to Sparks Monday in the and suffering And when a bright happy young lire just blossoming into noble manhood us cut down by the wayside it is doubly so While there is no doubt that a voung life so full of kindness and nobility as was Carl Irwins is fully prepared to continue its growth and development in ibat belter world yet we never fuel prepared to lose the in fluence of snch a life among us In Carls death Mr and Mrs Trwln lose their only child in whom they have centered their ev ery hope Life seems to them scarcely worth the living now But tis pleasant to know that the conduct if his life has been such as to leave no dark spots i o war its memory The very fact that a young man of Carls ago should deem It his diuy to ask permission of his to go bathing is in itself a beautiful thought as an index of charactea His funeral was a touching scene Every body at the fort seemed to vie with each other as to who should show the most kindness and sympathy toward the bereaved parents Through the kindness of the officers at the post In sending three large wagons and with such conveyances as could be hired In town the en tire high school of fifty five students and a number of larger pupils from the other rooms were taken to the fort to attend the funeral The remaining twelve members of the elev enth grade gathered flowers from their friends In town and made a beautiful wheel of thirteen spokes the thirteenth one being broken This they took to the grave and after waiting until the grave was completely filled and rounded off they deposited their mark of affection and de parted In sorrow The clas had not previously selected their class colors but when they hearu of the sad accident they met and immediately selected blue and white the emblems of truth and putity which were such marked traits of Carls character Thirteen ribbon bows were nade twelve were -worn by the remaining mem bers of the class and the thirteenth was put up on the breast of Carls remains To describe the scenes of sorrow at the home at the chapel or at the grave would be beyend my power In fact to attempt to do so would be irreverent Mr and Mrs Irwin certainly have a host of sympathisers in the sad ordeal through which they are passing Personally I can only reiterate what I have expressed to dozens of persons In Valentine be fore Carl was one of our truest and purest I must not attempt to express the grief we feel in losing him ROBERT H WATSON Card of Thanks To all loving friends who so kindly assisted by their presence and offer ings at the obsequies of their depart ed son Carl and to the officers and garrison at Fort Niobrara Mr and Mrs Irwin desire to extend their sin cere thanks also to the ladies and gentlemen composing the choir For Professor and Mrs Watson his teachers and classmates their hearts are full to overflowing with grati tude for their lasting devotion to Carl both in life and in death and for their beautifully touching iloral offering and expressions of sympa thy and by whose loving hands their sons last resting place was so tender ly arranged thus lessening the weight of sorrow put upon them by an all wise Providence JAS IRWIN AND WIFE Nothing has ever been produced to equal or
