Thackrey is the man who put the county on a cash basis. The increase in the amount and value of taxable property had nothing to do with it ; Sullivan's six 3ears labor for economy had nothing to do with it ; "McKmley prosperity' ' had nothing to do with it ; the two orders of the county commissioneis to the treasurer forcing him to do his duty had nothing to do with it Oh , no ; Thackrey did it all himself. Thackrey , the man who sent to Kansas for his office assistants , and like Mutz kept the 11101103" in the family ; Thackrey , who while putting the county on a cash basis issued circu- lais libeling his brother officials and at tacking the county's credit ; Thackrey , who rather than employ carpenters did his own work and neglected his office duties : the man who was unable to get , out more than on financial statement ; a year , and couldn't do that without assistance - j sistance ; the man who deliberately ig nored his superior's orders ; the man to whom many citizens paid taxes , and a couple of weeks later received duns for the same ; Thackrey is the man who did it , and did it all alone. The republicans went 'into ecsta sies because they thought they had unexpectedly found n pure candidate for supreme judge. They claimed they had a candidate without a flaw a-poli- tician of purest ray serene a genuine anti-monopolist--a hater of railroad influence. But , alas , their hopes are already blasted. They said he was too dignified to enter into a scramble for office : vet he is already makingpoli tical speeches and scramblng- hard as anybody. They said he was beaten for the nomination in 3889 because he was opposed to railroad domination , and now it turns out that he was laid on the shelf because he was a prohi- bitionst. They said he was too pure to behold iniquity , and then he is proven by the - leading- official organ of the party to be the subservient tool of monopolies. The > > said that he had been blameless in office , and then ti comes out that he was the first of the supreme judges to increase his own aslary by pensioning his wife and son on the state treasury under the pre tense that said wife and son were SiS6 ? , ste ° * rraPhers. The whole state has been denouncing the su preme judges for nepotism in placin their relatives on the pav-roll , and now it appears that M. B.
