Charles D. Tate , who -was charged with sell ing1 liquor to Indians , was called Tuesday rnjorning. and the following jurj' recorded : W. H. Wilkinson , Wm. Beamer. J. W. Finlayson , Sam Hudson , George Wheeler , Dewey Kellogg. U. M. Cramer , . Thos. Stansbie. Thos. Hud son , Wm. Storey. W. A. Shelbourn and .1. S. Estabrook. The trial began immediately after dinner , and the prosecution placed Isaac Yellow Robe and Henry Prett\ * Eagle on the stand , and showed by them that on the night of October 27th the last named Indian bought of defendant at the "hog ranch" south of town a half pint of whiskey , pay ing therefor 50 cents. The defense called J. A. Stafford , E. R. Thompson , Geo. Hammond and others who swore they were at the ranch that night and that no Indians Avere present. The defense was a simple and complete denial of the charges made. Arguments of coun sel , Walcott and Tucker for the prosecution. C'larke and Tucker jr. . for the defense , were made before supper , and the case went to the jury. After being out until 3:30 : a. m. that bodreturne d a verdict of guilty as charged. This case was brought by a number of leading citizens of this town , and its outcome will have considerable to do with stopping the sale of liquor to the red men. This we all devoutly hope for.
